Worked a treat thanks mate!! Only thing I softened the bottle edges with a heated spoon and didn't cut the top off the bottle to make it harder for them to escape...THANKS

I can't believe how easy it was to catch my two male platies who were harassing my females. I caught each one of them in less than 30 seconds, funny story they were both following the same female to mate and that female ended up in the trap both times luring them in. 🤣 Thank you!!

Brilliant! That's for the idea! Catching your fish for things like regular maintenance or to medicate them is a necessity. And doing it in a way -- like this -- to minimize or virtually eliminate the STRESS of being chased with a net is VITAL to happy, healthy fish! Thanks again!!

Thank you! I had been considering trying the same thing. Glad to know it's possible! I have some next to impossible cichlids to catch. They know before I even start. Crazy because these guys are food CRAZY! You would think they are continuously starving...

You are a genius! I have been trying to separate a single female guppy from my main tank for ages……within an hour of setting up the bottle trap, she was caught!

The trap works fine, but those edges are just too sharp and may hurt your pet fish. I suggest smoothing them a little with fire next time.

Going to try this. I want to remove a school of ember tetra from my shrimp tank as I think they might be bullying my cardinia shrimp and put them in a larger community tank, but been chasing them for ages with the net and I think they think its a game, but I'm getting really pissed off with them. I have one otto in there, but he is fine and not bothering anyone.

It's an amano shrimp (Caridina multidentata) they eat algae. They don't however reproduce in aquariums. They need salt water for that. There are also cherry shrimps (Neocaridina heteropoda) in this tank. They reproduce like rabbits. Downside is they don't eat algae. They add a nice touch of red to the tank though.

+Ironiic zero "They don't however reproduce in aquariums. They need salt water for that" he's not saying to add salt to your planted tank. he's saying in order to breed amano shrimp, you need to transition them into saltwater.... jesus christ, those reading comprehension skills....

I built a trap to catch try and catch a school of synodonits petricola. I caught 1 and after that the others would not go near the trap. I caught the first one in 10 minutes after that I left the trap in the tank for 2 days and they still would not go near it.

Is your aquarium a very heavily planted one with established roots and eco-system? That big net of yours can't get into every nook and cranny and requires taking things out of the tank, something you DON'T do with even the most modest of planted aquariums unless you want to destroy it. Take it from someone with a heavily planted 75 gallon and a dozen loaches that are great at hiding.
