Really nice tutorial Joe!! One question... is it one to avoid on lakes with birdlife? I'm just wondering how likely it would be for birds to fly through the line when it's suspended above the water

It can be an issue with venues with a lot of birdlife yes, it's a tactic that you need to assess the venue first before using. On venues where birdlife isn't an issue, like the venues in this video, then you will be fine. 👌🏻

@NeilHawkins-zq7bm worst that can happen, and has happened to me, is a bird hits the line and pulls it out of the clip. No different to a bird swimming through your line. I'm interested to know why your opinion is so strong on the method?

@@NeilHawkins-zq7bmand a valid very well explained reason. We all have our own thoughts mate. Using the only water i use this method on as an example I've had many many more issues with a "normal" approach. I can literally count on 2 fingers how many times it's been a issue that's cleared in no time but the bottom rod I'd need many hands to count. Now the ratio of times I use this method compared to bottom needs to be taken into account for sure but I use it on on 2 pegs so it gets a shared amount of use as i try to stick to them pegs. Its a Shallow 3 to 4ft at the right times water, plagued with ducks and swans and very wary carp and the bottom bait rods is at least 3 times a session to sort. You can't bait up at all, they ignore a rod being cast but eventually find your rig. The amount of times you see a duck or Swan flapping around on this water is insane. Everyone and I mean everyone gets a problem every session. Every water is different and I'm a massive fan of not hurting things but on this one I'm tackling at the minute the washing line is safer, problem it's it's surrounded by trees and can only be used in a few areas. It's like any method, if used correctly its fine. Mine is cast over some pads and set fairly high above the water and dropped into the pads basically. It gets knocked out from time to time but I'm honestly gutted if I can't get those pegs as I'm in for a nightmare.

Are your bobbins from custom reel king? If so what do you think of them? And do they have enough weight to them?

I've never used south coast rods so I can't comment. But south coast are customs aren't they? May be best ti go to them to get a custom arm length built for your size 👌🏻
