Catch MORE Fish | TOP 10 Flies

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

These are my top 10 trout flies! Put me anywhere in the world with only these flies, and I would feel confident catching fish with this selection. If you are new to fly fishing and want to build a great base for your fly box, these flies are an excellent start. The only thing I’d suggest is to mix up the colors and sizes to match the hatch.

This was a great beginners kit for a great price. kzread.infoUgkxKRURvLsu9Vvyw7gIuvt8FsApoQNCdz-1 Its given us a huge variety to test out and see what works well and what we like to use. Majority of the flies have stayed together well, but some of the rainbow warriors did unravel after catching a few blue gill. All in all, this was a great kit and are so happy with the purchase and value for money.

Reminder to folks: the reason why some flies are illegal in competition is because the fish can end up swallowing the entire hook which is fine if you're catching them for food. In competition you want to be able to catch and release fish really quickly so you can get the biggest one possible. A fish who has swallowed a hook is a fish that is dying. It would be cruel to release them. This means be prepared to keep what you catch with them. It isn't guaranteed you'll lose your fly/hook, nor does it mean unbanned patterns can't be swallowed. Just that there's a higher chance.

Why would a fish swallow one pattern as opposed to not swallowing another?

@@tj6111 the size one like that the fish could just gulp it as for a bigger one it would look like something bigger like a minnow they would have to take their time

The mop fly was banned because it’s considered too easy to use and traditionalists dislike it because they don’t consider it real fly fishing. I’ve never heard about a fly being banned because the fish swallow it. Usually once they can feel it’s not real they spit it right back out.

@@GrayShark18 I've heard that swirmy worm material is extremely easy to swallow and those flies always end up in the guts. I've heard too that some patterns end up with pieces being swallowed so fish get a gut full of plastic pieces. (Which may just be complaining, like you said). But the wormy patterns always get folks complaining that the fish swallows it.

At 3:45, is that pink bead you used soft or hard? Does it matter if you use a hard bead versus a soft one? Also, does it matter if you use a hard bead versus a soft one for the Nucleus Egg at 9:04 as well? And what size hooks did you use for these two flies? Thanks ahead if you could answer my questions, I appreciate it!

The beads are all hard. A fish will hold a soft bead in its mouth longer, but I haven’t found that a problem for getting a hook set in time. Plus, a rigid bead will not fall apart. in the case of the pink one it's there to skin the fly faster. As for the hooks, you'll rarely see me mention them because it comes down to what fish you are after and what you want to imitate. Many of these patterns I'll fish in 5 or more sizes

Thanks! I don't just because it depends on your target and the bug you are trying to imitate. Maybe I'll start adding suggestions for sizes

Quite a few, but it's very hard, to sum up in a few sentences. Essentially you'll be starting a business, and I highly suggest checking out channels that teach about creating them. That's how I started, and I am still learning daily. Other than that one key thing is being patient. Building a business takes time. Good luck!
