Her voice is so full of character and really makes the band; too many singers today seem to just be clones of one another, going for the apparent security of sounding like someone else as opposed to being bold and unique as themselves

Still sounds absolutely brilliant.
Towards the end of my uni days, this was absolutely massive in Swansea. It uplifted everyone as did 'Mulder and Scully'. The 90's & early 00's were a brilliant time in Swansea and Cardiff with Catatonia, Manics, SFA, phonics, and more. Never get those times back but it's great to have these bands/tunes on demand and the memories that flow. I do miss hearing my beloved Welsh accent.
Being welsh myself, I love her natural accent.
The trilled 'R' gives me chills.

Same trajectory only 60s 70s and 80s for me. Musically the 80s was ‘my decade’ but there was a real purple patch in the mid/late 90s and this is top quality from Cerys (always puzzles me why this wasn’t a huge hit internationally).

She an absolutely brilliant voice.
Catatonia were one of the best bands of the 1990s, Cerys' sings 'Road Rage' with such raw emotion & passion in her native Welsh accent that makes the song so memorable & long lasting. Thank you Cerys' & Catatonia.
This woman is a serious artist. Love her.
1998 was a brilliant year of music
Such a song, such a voice. Maybe I'm just being daft and sentimental but this song always brings me back to the 90's when the world seemed simpler - so many possibilities. Now in 2022 have mortgages, bills, wars, viruses, lockdowns. But this song and Catatoina & Cerys Matthews amazing vocals makes me remember a better time.
Hands up for the Welsh accent
I drank far too much and partied too hard, to remember the late '90s... All I get, when I try and dredge up a memory or two, is this incredibly bright and happy feeling! lol London was beautiful, back then. Londoners were fucking BEAUTIFUL!

*This was one of my favourite bands and songs as a kid growing-up in the 90's. I also used to love Bjork and Pulp. The good old days of listening to music on cassette tapes. I still love them today and the 90's will always be my favourite era and best decade musically. At least more alternative and rock bands got the deserved attention and chart success back then without selling out, using autotune and getting naked whilst holding a beats pill stereo.*

@SKINDEREE
9 жыл бұрын
If you want to make it over the pond the record execs prefer you to sing in an American accent, As they think it sounds better. So Joss Stone doesn't try to sing in an American accent ? Have you listened to Jake Bugg singing like a Buddy Holly Rip Off ? Leona Lewis has went over there and fell into the trap ! Amy Winehouse sang like an American as well These four are from London, Nottingham and The West Country and not one of them sound representative of where they come from. I am using those four as examples and there are many more. I don't see the point you are trying to make in regards to Cerys Matthews because she is using her own accent and sounds original. In the past the British singers were unique in that respect but it is now becoming less common as time goes on. Yes there are still some bands and singers who are original but the manufactured clones are becoming more and more prevalent !
