That has to be soooo scary but good to hear that you had a better experience. It's crazy how we take certain things for granted until we start struggling. Vision is one of them. So great that you're sharing your experience for other people going through the same thing. ❤️

"If I only had the nerve!" I was just talking about this with my mother-in-law because she has had cataract surgeries and is really enjoying the clear vision. I'm just so squeamish I know I'll struggle with it when/if that time comes! But I love seeing your whole journey. Not being able to read would be the last straw for me and I would absolutely have this done. Oh my goodness, Wales is such a beautiful place. Karen we honestly think of you every day when we wear our gorgeous masks that you made. And yay I'm glad you still have your superpower!❤️

Karen, you brought tears to my eyes, but for good reason. I had both my eyes done just recently. One about 2 months ago and the other a little over a month ago. I’m so thankful I had it done. My only regret is waiting to see a doctor about it. Before surgery I was getting to a point that driving was getting very uncomfortable, lights especially the sun was super bright. I couldn’t distinguish anything if any light source behind an object. Reading was unbearable and so depressing for me an avid reader. During surgery they gave me a syrup to relax me. For my right eye they did have to do a suture which was remove at my second surgery follow up. The testing and prep took longer then the procedure itself. I can’t even explain to people how cool it looked to see what the doctor was doing. I was scared/nervous the first time. The 2nd one was a breeze so to speak. Please I encourage anyone needing this surgery get it done. The beauty and things I have missed out on because of ME being stubborn to not go see a doctor. Get it done your vision is worth getting it done. 6 minute procedure. It’s worth it! Karen you are an inspiration to all. Thank you, you helped me so much before my surgery, I knew somewhat what to expect and most of what you described happened to me. One thing I’m curious about is why did they not let you drive for so long?

Oh Diana! What an amazing comment! It is so so true that we delay seeking treatment. Some of it happens so gradually and we think, well, we’re getting older. But so so pleased to hear it went so well. Re the driving, here in the UK, that is just the practice. They also do it for other types of surgery, like a caesarean! I forgot to mention that a week before the surgeon “ticked me off” I had to get an eye test at an opticians. Thanks so much for the encouraging words that others can now read 🥰🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🙏👀 🥂

On my last check-up I was told I'll need this surgery within the next five years. I've really noticed a difference. I no longer drive in a strange neighborhood at night and it is affecting my reading. Thank you so much for sharing. So helpful.

I’m no expert of course - but it sounds like you should have the surgery within five months, not five years. If you are having reading issues now, fir me, that was the thing that triggered it for me. You didn’t say if this was an optician telling you this, or a doctor. Either way, I would encourage you to see an opthamologist as soon as you can. I definitely should have had my second surgery sooner it had got so bad. Good luck!!! Karen, totally understand. Been there, done that. So scary. Totally understand the fear. So good when you have a doctor sharing what's going on to help you with the fear, especially if that doctor has kind methods of communication. And yes, anesthetic!! I went yesterday for my post op follow up and he said he did my lens implant monofocal for distance and corrected an astigmatism and he said he had to put a stitch in which he will remove in 3 weeks. I don't remember anything because of the IV medication. I am very claustrophobic so they gave me extra juice. :) My boyfriend took me and was very impressed with Dr. Desai. I got edema in my eye, have dark rim on the outside and lights flashing. It had been 2 months since the second one. I am seeing a new eye dr. I found out I have Fuch's Dystrophy in the bad eye and will probably need it lasered to get scar tissue off the lense. Fuch's Dystrophy can lead to a retina replacement.
