I’m in the process now of deciding. I always thought I’d go multihull but after seeing so many videos of monohull sailing in bad weather, especially getting caught out in an unexpected or stronger than intended squall and handling it, I’m struggling to understand how a sail by numbers catamaran handles those situations. Safety is very important for my wife and I.

I can't think of any cons of a catamaran other than being unaffordable to most people.

Double the motor maintenance, higher berthing fees, often terrible sailing boats, have that horrible movement in a big sea, nowadays built terribly, … I could go on

Like most things it is what you want to fill your needs. Mono for me, low budget, single hander, mainly coastal hopping, so a cat would not fit at all. If the budget were bigger, than still a mono. If I was half a couple in tropical water, live aboard, then cat.
