The Valcoder from Catalinbread is an updated classic from Catalinbread’s archives. Much more than an ordinary tremolo, the newly-designed Valcoder seeks to emulate old Valco amps rather than just the onboard modulation. The Depth knob allows you to dial in a hard squarewave chop as well as bubbly vintage trem sounds. The input knob controls the drive of the JFET preamp, which lends tube-like grit to the character of the tremolo. When rolling off the Depth control to the minimum, the Valcoder can be used as a tube-like boost-the sound of a no-frills clean machine on the brink of creamy overdrive. The tremolo circuit is inspired by the Valco amps of the past, such as Supro, National and Airline, so if you’ve ever heard and loved one of those amps, The Valcoder delivers all the sound with far less size and weight. The Valcoder manages to fit all the mojo of Chicago’s Valco company in a pedalboard-friendly enclosure, featuring high-quality components, variable 9 to 18 volt operation, and is built by hand in our own Portland, Oregon.

Excellent demo, exactly what I needed, now I know where my next paycheck is going to. Quick question, what's the turquoise finish guitar you play at the beginning? It seems like a reverend but I can't find that same one on their webpage. Excellent playing Andy, as always!

Hope this isn't too expensive. I've been looking for a trem box to go with my new supersonic 60 amp.
Very nice, but I haven't found a single tremolo sound I can't do every bit as good as, and almost always better with my Ehx Super Pulsar. I'm glad this didn't come out first because I'd have gotten it for sure, and maybe not gotten the ehx, which would've been a damn shame.

Vox also makes tremo/vibro. It's one of those cooltron pedals but it's one of the best.
What model of Reverend is Andy playing in this?
I wonder how does It compare with the Supro trem pedal

The Supro sounds good but changes the EQ waaaaay to much when engaged.

DcsOrCity Yes I did and I ended up returning it. It performs exactly as shown but I felt it is kind of a one-trick-pony. Does that one sound very well but I found it kind of dark. Decided to stick with my Black Cat mini-trem which I have had for three years; one of the few trems with a tone knob that let me adjust for different guitars.

Pro Guitar Shop; they have a good return policy. I don't buy pedal with the intent of returning, but it's nice to know you can.

Did yours have the original graphics before Catalinbread was forced by Valco to change the bolt graphic? Just curious.
Too square wave compared to my 6160. The Valco tremolo I know is about as much a tremolo as it is a vibe. The harmonic 61' mode on the Strymon Flint is more the Valco kinda thing to my ears.
Can you do a lesson on R.E.M.'s "Crush With Eyeliner" with this pedal?

Hello, the valcoder can be set as a clean tremolo with no grit?

thebetterdad It gets pretty clean but it always a bit of grit, nothing too crazy though. The big thing to keep in mind is that it eats up a lot of your high end, so plan accordingly. If you run it at 18v though you it stays cleaner and you keep more of your high end.

Do they still make it new?
Does anybody know why catalinbread never makes their pedals with stereo outs? That is the main reason why I never buy their stuff-my rig is stereo.

Because I have a stereo rig and want everything that can be to be stereo.
Too much tune playing and not enough knob twisting. This video doesn't show the full range of the pedal.
