Catalina Island Hotels | California Travel Tips
California travel expert Veronica Hill checks out some of the oceanfront Catalina Island hotels in this episode of "California Travel Tips."
Catalina Island, located off the coast of California, is home to 22 Catalina Island hotels, four bed and breakfast inns and dozens of vacation home rentals, including some in the chic Hamilton Cove district, which has some of the most expensive Catalina Island Real Estate.
But if you want to stay in Catalina Island lodging that's just steps from the beach with an ocean view, there are four hotels you shouldn't miss. All are located along Crescent Drive on Catalina's boardwalk.
If you want to stay in a beachfront spot that's easy on the budget, check out the Santa Catalina Island company's Pavilion Lodge, a midcentury remodel that boasts a nice grassy courtyard and free continental breakfast every morning.
They can also offer special packages that include Catalina Island tours through the Middle Ranch or the Catalina Island Casino.
Looking for pet friendly hotels? Head to the Edgewater Hotel where you and your dog can stay in one of eight spacious suites. You can create your own packages here with boat rentals and perhaps a tour.
Couples in the know stay at the gorgeous Hotel Villa Portofino, which boasts an awesome Italian restaurant, flowered courtyards, in-room fireplaces, refrigerators, complimentary Continental breakfast and beach chairs and towels.
Another standout for any Catalina Island vacation is the stylish Hotel Metropole, an oceanfront retreat with its own shopping mall and arcade. The rooms here have jacuzzi tubs, fireplaces, and balconies overlooking the gorgeous Catalina Coast.
Additional waterfront hotels include the Snug Harbor Inn, Hotel Mac Rae, Hotel Vista del Mar and Catherine Hotel. Whatever hotel you choose, you can't go wrong with a view of this stunning coast.
Transportation to Catalina Island is via ferry on the Catalina Island Express.

Thanks for the info - i wanted to plan a vacation from our vacation for my wife and I to escape from the mainland for our anniversary - this kind of presentation puts some real perspective on the photos on the hotel sites. Thanks.
i wanna go there. im going to plan on it soon. thanks for this video.
Thanks for commenting! It is a beautiful hotel. One of my faves on Catalina!
That's my pick next time we're in Catalina! Cheers, Veronica and Jason
Good to hear! Hospitality is so important these days, and often lacking in even the nicest hotels. I'm always looking out for nice hotels with good service, so this will be on my list to check out. Thanks! Veronica
We stay at the Pavilion Lodge everytime we go to Catalina.....I guess that says we are pretty much happy with everything there! Next time we plan on staying at the Wrigleys Bed and Breakfast.
Sounds like you had some wonderful experiences there! Thanks for sharing your story. Veronica
You are so welcome. I think you'll have fun. Let me know if you have any questions! Veronica
Inn on Mt. Ada is very nice, as well as the Avalon Hotel and Snug Harbor Inn. There are also some really nice Catalina Island vacation rentals over at Hamilton Cove.
i miss the catalina of my youth i spent every summer there in the early 60s when they had the great white steamship and all the seaplanes including the mother goose its just not the same
Thank you so much! I'm happy to hear it!
Thanks for the tip!
Actually, yes. We visited during the winter.
@aidenlilbrat no passaport. Catalina Island is part of California I just came back from the island- $70.00 per person round trip boat ride. You may need to rent a gasoline powered golf cart to get around: $60.00/hour. The food is slight more expensive than the mainland. I had sopes made from a mexican woman at $2.00 each and it was excellent. I'll be heading out there again in the summer.
we stayed in a unit at Hamilton Cove. Pretty sure we paid only about $100 a night for a 2 bed, 2 bath unit that had amazing views looking over the complex. it also came with free use of their golf cart. There are plenty of similar great deals and I think I would choose them over a more expensive hotel myself. we were so lucky to have a golf cart - it is a must for enjoying your stay here. If we would have had to rent one from the place on the harbor that would have gotten expensive in a hurry.
Nice! What are your favorite things about Hotel Catalina? I haven't been there.
@skaneverdies Many Avalon hotels on the waterfront go for up to $350 per night, so in comparison Pavilion Lodge is cheaper. Rates change so often depending on when you travel.
You are so welcome. Hope you have a great time. Let me know if I can help with any suggestions! Veronica
@beastyfourpointsix The Pavilion Lodge is a nice little place right on the water. We enjoyed our stay there as well! The Inn at Mount Ada will be a special treat! Enjoy yourselves! Veronica
I'm going to Catalina right now
Snug Harbor Inn is the best by far.
Catalina gets much colder than San Diego. San Diego is well known for one of the best climates in the country.
Somebody please telle me if i need my passport to go to catalina island
@aidenlilbrat LOL!!!
@aidenlilbrat No, you do not.
