Catalina Island Fishing! (Halibut Catch, Clean and Cook)
Hey everyone, welcome back to another video! Cole and I took my Parker center console across the channel to Catalina Island to do some ocean fishing and hoop netting for lobster. We had amazing conditions and were able to catch a bunch of California halibut. Cole had the hot stick though, I just could not hook a keeper sized fish! Once we got back home, I filleted the fish and made an absolutely delicious dinner for Rachel.

There are some amazing weather windows for sure!
Halibut frames make amazing fish stock / soup as well.. Last time I ate it we steamed it with ginger / shallots / soy / garlic & sumak served with rice - amazing

Appreciate you watching!
Nice video. I caught my first keeper halibut on my kayak, right outside of Shelter Island boat launch. That stinger hook is a must when targeting halibut.

It definitely is, can’t tell how many fish we land with the stinger
Cool video! Thats where we go for halibut too. Maybe we'll see you out there one day 👍

Adam, first thanks are in order! Winter time Socal fishing content is rarer than gold from Ophir. Loved your Halibut rig. Although you were not fortunate enough to catch a legal you demonstrated great patience by not quickly setting the hook on strikes 👍. I once gave my trash Barracuda to my Mexican neighbor and his wife made the best cerviche I've ever had. Oh is Cole your brother?

It happens that way sometimes haha. Viktor made barracuda when he was out here for us and it was actually pretty good! It might get a bad rap from sitting in gunny sacks, definitely a fish that needs to be taken care of

Do you have a video on how to tie a stinger hook? I’d like to learn 👍
I’m in Florida and the Barracuda are huge but the closest we have to Halibut is Flounder but no where near the size of Halibut!

Yea it was!
Its weird to see halibut in such clear water. Maybe they've got more vibrant coloration off catalina.
I tried eating Barrie’s 40 years ago and no matter how I tried to hide the taste they were 😝😝😝
I always wonder, is there any taste different from a California halibut vs Texas flounder. Your legal size is 22 and we have doormats at 22 inches.

I haven’t tried a Texas flounder to be honest. I would love to do a comparison though
Very nice and jealous. When was this? I’ve been noticing conditions have been horrible out there.

I havent noticed a difference in taste. It does cook faster though due to it being thinner than the top side.
how long does it take to get to Catalina Island? I want to take my inflatable out.

Just depends on the weather really. Get confident on reading the forecasts before sending it across
Oh man it's so nice to see people using conventionals. All those eastcoaster using spinning reels is a bit depressing
