Not necessarily. I had a friend when I was a child whose cat was 21 years old. Boy did he look it but still he reached that age.

I had no idea 😢

I have now had three elderly cats: one lived to 20, the second to 21, and I now have an 18 year old cat. All three became even sweeter and more darling as they got older. Caring for an elderly cat is more work (that's how we help them live so long), but it's so rewarding too!

@@natalibera67 Oh yes. It's not just about being lucky. I take very good care of my cats. First, obviously spay and neuter them, and keep their shots up to date. Give them regular vet checkups. Give them good quality food. Be aware of any changes in behaviour, coat, skin, weight, eyes, etc, and get them checked quickly. Once they're in the senior age range, they need to be given at least yearly blood work so vets can find out if they have any conditions that need treatment. Cats won't tell you they're sick till they're far too sick to do much about it. I follow the vet's advice about treatments: medications, IV fluids, special diets, gaining or losing weight, etc. I also keep my cats indoors. The fastest way to give your cat and early and horrible death is to let them outside. They do have a catio though, so they can go out in a kind of very large cage and enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells, while remaining safe.

I come back to see cookie sometime. Very cute and calm kitty.

Cookie reminds me of my beautiful calico cat who was with me since I was a child. She passed away a couple of years back, having shared her 20 years of life with me. She was even sweeter as an old lady, exactly like Cookie.

Well 21 I think is about 100 in cat years so I dont know maybe. The oldest cat I ever saw in person was 21 and he lived a little longer than that but not much. Not sure he got to 22. But hed also been through the wars over the years fell of a roof and all sorts. Its like anything down to the lottery of genetics in the end.

Oh, this is so lovely ❤️ I love seeing senior kitties. I had a 19 year old Maine Coone and a 6 year old tortie. I lost both last year. Both to natural causes within 6 months of each other. What I would have given to see my tortie grow into a senior, too. She was my heart cat and I miss her every day. It's obvious you cherish sweet Cookie the way you should.
