Cat-Proofing Your Home: 5 Essential Tips for a Worry-Free Trip When You Don't Have a Pet Sitter!

Have you ever been in a situation where you had to leave your cat home alone for a period of time without a pet sitter? This situation can cause lots of stress and anxiety for cat owners, who may spend the majority of their trip wondering if their feline friend is OK.
In this video, I share five essential tips for cat-proofing your home so it is as safe as possible for your feline friend while you're away. These tips are based on my experience as a cat owner who used to have to leave her extremely aggressive cat home alone without a sitter due to liability reasons. They are also based on my experience as a cat sitter and various things I have witnessed while caring for other peoples' cats.
This video is meant to help prevent cat-tastrophes while providing peace of mind. While these tips are geared toward people who must leave their cats home alone, they also apply if you have a pet sitter checking in periodically. Basically, there are just good, smart ideas that all cat owners should keep in mind.

This was really informative and well thought-out. I actually have never left my cats alone apart from when I have been out during the day. My Mum left her cats for a weekend when they were younger but as they got into their older age they needed someone home with them to make sure their needs were catered for. They did well- her oldest cat Tinky lived to her mid-twenties! Like 8 :)

Awwww thank you! I had to begin leaving Maddie alone by virtue of her aggression/liability surrounding that and it really got me thinking. Even today with Katniss I hate doing it, but I have learned that typically the worry is all mine and she is fine when I return. We just love our furbabies so much! And mid-20s…wow! Tinky sounds pawsome!!!

@@MeowmyandMe Tinky was pawesome- she unfortunately passed away last year. It's the first time ever my Mom hasn't got any cats but she says she is too old to have another one now as she doesn't want to pass on the responsibility to someone else if something happened to her.

@@LivingwithRagdolls awwww this makes me sad 😢 I understand her logic and not trying to convince otherwise but the first thought to pop to mind is all of the senior animals who would love a great home

@@MeowmyandMe She has had seniors before in the past. She had a mother and daughter British Shorthair couple that were rescued from appalling conditions. They had only ever lived on a shelf in an outbuilding and when they came to live with her, she had to show them how to use the stairs and when they went outside in Mum's garden, it began to rain slightly. The look on Ambrosia's face was a picture as she had never experienced being outside and then the new sensation of rain just blew her mind. Unfortunately, Ambrosia only lived with Mum for 10 months before passing away. The years of neglect had taken its toll on her body but my Mum worshipped her. X
