My cat has jaundice. What would you advise me to do in terms of caregiving incl. Feeding, and the type of food (raw foodstuff is ok for cats??). Over how long did this recovery take? My cat has ataxia too. How long will it take to restore a noemal gait pattern?

If jaundice is confirmed with high ALKP, increased liver echogenicity and decreased appetite, it may be hepatic lipidosis. This problem is due to lack of protein intake. Protein intake should be at least 2-3g/kg for cat day. Type of food is not important. Recovery could take days to a few months. Forced or syringe feeding must keep going on till your cat eats on its own. Normal gait was back in 3 months with gradual progression. However, severe kernicterus may leave permament disorder.

@@perthahn6964 my vet told me to not feed her. They put her on an iv for 15 mins or so,plus 5 vaccines and told me this should sustain her and to not give her more food. It will make her vomit more, which is bad for her. Her vomit was brown.. i saw some traces of blood the last time she vomitted. Her body temperature has dropped to 36oC. I am going to do some blood tests on her today, so the vet knows if she has renal failure. But she has peed thrice at night. Her urine was a normal pale yellowish colour, so i do not suspect renal failure. I sprayed some insecticide in my room a while back. She was in the room and breathed the spray in. Could it be that this has led to her declining liver function? The active ingredient is imiprothrin ( pyrethroid) and deltamethrin. I remember she had difficulty breathing for a while after that, and her food intake also decreased, although she seemed to recover a week after. I wish i had a good vet here in mauritius, someone who would genuinely help, and provide inpatient services, without being so costly that people cannot afford treatment. My cat needs a vet's supervision. I unfortunately do not have the knowledge to take care of her.

Most cases of jaundice in cats are related with hepatic lipidosis, which is caused by lack of protein carrying nutrients through the body. The cat in this clip kept voimiting while I was feeding by force. Of course, he was on anti-emetics. But sometimes it is not enough to stop them vomiting. Keep her worm, and feed little by little. Renal failure can happen while they look to urinate normally. Liittle pesticide is not likely to harm them. Anyway, any problem stopping cats eating leads to hepatic lipidosis.

@@perthahn6964i will keep on force feeding in that case. Can you make a video on how to forcefeed cats? I tried once, with another cat, and the food went down his trachea into his lungs. He eventually passed away. I hope to know what to do and what to avoid. I will keep her warm, but she keeps on running away. The struggles of owning a cat!

Check the footage with "syringe feeding cat" on KZread. You must give some time them to swallow and breath. Put the tip of syringe around the last molar teeth, and push it little by little. It can be difficult at first, once you get the knack of it, it will be easy.
