Thank you so very much for this tutorial! I appreciate how the unexpected colors blend to create the dimension and lighter values. I would like to make many cat drawings of the favorite cats over many years that I have had. I am known as the Cat Lady since I take care of the neighborhood cats that populate. (I spay & neuter those that I can.) I have a whimsical cat painting above my monitor. While I watched you draw the cat, my bottle-fed raised 3 yr old popped his head up above the screen. I was able to snap several pics of the painting, my cat, and the drawing on the screen. It was o adorable, and I will cherish that "3 types of cats in one frame" photo!

Thank you for this tutorial, I needed inspiration for drawing my deceased black cat.. I don't want to completely forget how he looked, and although I have his pictures and videos, It feels like i need to honor his death by drawing him..

This tutorial is incredible! I have been looking at various videos of how to capture a black cat - have to say yours is the best. Thank you for this detailed tutorial! My friend’s black cat died and I am drawing a picture for him to remember him by. I like that you name the colors as you use them. I have Prismacolor but a lot of the names are the same.

Yes it is. Any watercolor paper works as long as it isn’t heavily textured. 😊

What colors did you use for the eyes

I used multiple colors for the eyes.. You’ll want to use more than one shade of the following colors: yellow, green, turquoise, black, gray, and a hint of orange, blue and brown. First apply the lightest shades, and build your colors, gradually getting darker from there 👍🏼.

Hi Cherry! It’s been a long time since I did that one. I no longer have it in my files, but I do know I originally found it on Pinterest 👍🏼.

This cat is beautifully done! Unfortunately, acrylic paints WILL crack off over time. Especially with Polychromos which is oil based. Using colored pencil powder by Brush & Pencil allows you to make a white paint that is made for use with colored pencils!

As a professional artist, I’ve always combined mediums throughout the years and have never experienced cracking/deterioration. Using acrylic paint over oil paint would definitely result in cracking, but it isn’t the same for acrylic paint on Polychromo pencils on paper; especially with such a small application. 😊👌🏼

You can definitely improvise. It won’t turn out the exact same. It will be less realistic. All the colors I used, combined, make it look as realistic as it is. 🖤
