My cat is stubborn and strong, too. I was closing door so she couldn't get out, and with one strong paw she pulled door back against me, and got out! Think of the muscle strength to pushback against my forward force on the door! Of course, not long after, she came back in for a fresh plate of food!

Leave the cat alone, it knows the way home

cant just yank on a cat from her waist/back legs...put an arm around her chest so she feels supported (she feels like she would fall down on her face, swinging from her trapped back legs if she let go while you are gripping her there), so while have an arm under her torso lengthwise or wrapped around chest, hold her as tight to your own chest as you can while still having your other arm free to unhook her front claws. can't just force the claws straight back. gotta unhook with forward motion, one at a time. capture the first freed claw with other hand supporting her torso. then free other claw and scoop her up close and make her feel secure. she may be reluctant just because you aren't good yet at picking her up. no offense. take my advice and she will trust you more.
