on my pumps they have a spring behind the plate makes it more interesting also that hsg is supposed to be dry

On high hour engines or recertifications, the seal failed because the throttle shaft bore at the back of the governor housing wears and allows the throttle shaft to wobble enough to cause the seal to have short service life. I made a jig and used the reamer from the sleeve metering tool group to ream the housing to accept the same brass bushing as the SMFS used.

Sounds like a good repair . This video was actually shot last year and the engine has 2000hrs on it so far and no leaks. I will let you know when it starts leaking again

No, C12’s are not typically a leaky engine. Sometimes they weep around the flywheel housing or the sump pan but it’s usually very light and easily washed off. Great engines !
No need to remove the entire cover just use screw driver it was easily out.

With the engine hot and running, we could visually see oil weeping around the front cover. You can see at the start of the video the mess around the throttle shaft caused by oil and dust sticking to the pump.
