CAT 299D Electric Actuator & Front Coupler Rebuild … Again!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

While working on the pasture project I hit a little snag…
I broke the electric actuator on my CAAT299D, which is used for locking-in the attachments on the front of the machine.
In this video I remove & replace the electric actuator, and do a little repairing and rebuilding of the front coupler including some paint touchups.
If you want to see a more detailed rebuild of the front coupler assembly, check out my other video:

Because I was pressed for time, I didn’t have a chance to try and buy this from the manufacturer. They do make one that has built in end stops, which I’m not sure why CAT does not use that version.

Nice job on the video and the repair. I wasn't aware that Cat went to the hood raising mechanism from the wheel loaders and away from the hydraulic cylinders for the latches. FYI, In the future when painting around cylinder rods, smear a little bit of grease on the rods and the paint won't stick to them.

That’s a great tip! Thank you for sharing! Since I have used both hydraulic and electric attachments now, I do appreciate how simple the electric solution. It is a nice reduction of valves and expensive hoses. The only downside I have really seen is the cylinder is not hardened like the rest of the machine. What I mean by that is those dinky wires that are constantly exposed to rocks and debris. Also the cylinder wall is not as thick as it should be. The other thing that bums me out is that Thomson sells this cylinder with built in limit switches for like $100 more. Would be nice to have that feature because you can keep the cylinder running after it hits its limits and it clicks or grinds trying to continue. I’m sure that’s fine for a while, but as things start to wear inside I’m sure it is distorting bushings and putting too much stress on this plastic gears.

@@MakersAcres That is the same set up they use for the hoods on the wheel loaders. Those are hidden in the frame of the machine and work real well there. I see these as a cost saver, no control valve, no hoses, no cylinder. Problem is your experience, no protection either. Keep on making the programs. You did well on it.
