Akumajōu Dracula/Castlevania on Sharo X68000 home computer in Japan same year in 1993, later ported in North America as Castlevania Chronicles on Sony PlayStation in 2000 is also really good, as good as Rondo Of Blood/Akumajōu Dracula X Chi No Rondo, and I'm a sucker for Super Castlevania 4. But Rondo Of Blood is excellent, definitely top tier.

In case anyone is bad like me and can't get the timing right consistently in the first phase of the final boss: I found it much easier to hit him as soon as he appears and then backflip over the fireballs. 100% effective

This is so Surreal. I never knew this game had such well voiced cutscenes and by so many cult VAs.

Jeez this was doing anime long before even the Netflix series.

When he fights shaft, I love the original Castlevania NES boss theme! Thanks for posting this!

I like how alot of these bosses have a "Last attack" Mechanic.

Those attacks can't kill you. They're designed to screw you over for trying to get the max life bonus at the end of thr stage.

He has a bandana and short hair like Ryu and nothing else, so not really. It's just one of those many possible stereotypical looks. Now whether that still gave Konami trouble or not, I do not know.

20 years ago they had already achieved the conception of a great 2D game as we know them (in terms of gameplay, music and graphics)

Such a beautifully animated game, Konami made so many high quality titles in the 90s.

To think, in just over a decade, the Minotaur would go from a level boss (here) to a mere grunt, albeit one of the best sources of grinding skill points (Portrait of Ruin).

This game is a masterpiece. Still play it today, its remake also is one of the best Castlevania's. I love that style, the series should have kept that as a new model more modern and also classic for the series. Imagine Symphony of The Night with the remake graphics?! The game is in English, I presume this is the PSP version?

I know these old games used to do whatever with localization, but hearing the final confrontation between Dracula and Ritcher I noticed the dialogue was much more in line with the fan translation I saw in this guy's no damage playthrough of Symphony of the Night, not exactly word for word, tho I'm not sure if the differences are more due to the fan translation being more rigid as projects of this fan made nature tend to be, or if it's just the English dub taking some liberties with the script, but they were both still generally on the same page whereas the official PS1 dub was completely different with the PSP redub only being a more verbose version of the old one.

Just finished the game yesterday. Maria is so broken, lmao. I beat Dracula with her on the first try and only got hit once by a stray fireball in phase 1 and again when he jumped on me in phase 2. Naturally, I wasn't satisfied, so I went straight to the Belmont for a rematch and got destroyed about 25 times.

Is he moonwalking like Simon Belmont from Super Castlevania 4?

I just finished the remake, and one thing i noticed is how they slightly changed Richter's personality. In the original, he is much more easy going and kind. In the remake, he's much more serious about his mission and his role as a Belmont, they even took off his pose.

in this game all he got was like a nice backflip and Item Crash, SOTN Richter is the broken one if anything. Also you should see Maria, Double Jump, better speed, makes Axe Armors look like a joke, better firing rate, pretty solid animal friends as subweapons, a Dash option instead of a Backflip...

In this case, the VERY first instance of voice acting is already out of sync with the mouth animation, as well, at 6:00 . So much for "quality control". Still, the voice acting in this particular localization is not among the worst ever, but it is certainly not good. Good English VA exists (Diablo 1, Ys Book I & II, Demon's Souls), but is so far off inbetween one another that it's almost better to always avoid it altogether.
