I couldn’t get into red dead 2 like I did the first one. I have no interest in beating it now a year later. Nothing wrong with it but it just lacked a little sumpin sumpin. Grand Theft Auto 5 was much better although Red Dead Redemption 1 may be my all time fave Rockstar game.

Great review man! I totally agree that not even an option for the original dubbing on Symphony is a straight up crime. I also hate that they changed the ending theme. "I Am the Wind" was super cheesy but personally I loved it. I might get this at some point just to have an easy way of playing Rondo and SOTN with trophies but the PS1 version will always be my favorite.

Best review I've seen of this collection. Casual fan of the Metroidvania genre but not played either of these. Requiem collection is currently £3.19 in the UK on PSN and I've just gone for it after watching this. Thanks!

Can someone please tell me how to item crush on the PS4 version? It says select button which is the touchpad but I've done that and everything I can think of and haven't seen any results.

What brilliantly done review, my ps3 died recently 😥😥😥 So i will download this to my Ps4 today 😀😁😀. Its shame its just a bare bones port, but you clearly go into great detail and i 👏👏👏 you for the time taken. You deserve alot more subs, but you have gained another now.. After 100% Completion of the Masterpiece that is Bloodstained Ritual of the night, if you haven't played it yet, I SERIOUSLY RECOMMEND IT (WOW ABSOLUTELY WOW) I decided to see if the SOTH Ps4 port is worth it, obviously since my beloved Ps3 finally gave up 😥😥😥 I downloaded it and played it a bit today, i see the skip Death scene still works and you just have to unequippe all gear and time your backstep glitch. I will no doubt 100% this all time classic again for umpteenth time lol.

I have actually been playing Ritual of the Night as much as I can lately. They did such a great job with it, and it was totally worth the wait. I need to finish doing a 100% run on this collection as soon as possible as well. These games never get old.

arguably the best classicvania and igavania in the franchise (though super 4 and aria are very damn close) this really needed a sound assign and gallery options, maybe even a boss rush mode with an online time board or something idk (symphony would greatly benifit from this)

Sotn just isn't the same without the librarian saying thank you the way he did in the original.

I know this is an older video but I was wondering what the differences/similarities are in playing Richter and Maria instead of Alucard in Symphony of the Night? I know Alucard gets a bunch of upgrades and such as you go. Do they get the same upgrades and power ups too as they go along or different ones or do they stay at relatively the same power levels as you go? I played around with them a little at the beginning and felt like I died really fast. (I’m not great at dodging lol) Does the save feature work the same for both of the as well? Thanks for any help or thoughts on this!

I am really sorry about the delayed response, but Richter and Maria don't recieve any upgrades like Alucard does, but they do have quite a few special moves that can be done that help a lot. They have dashes and they can have moves similar to the gravity boots where they can ascend vertically. This helps get to high places without getting upgrades. Also, they do have item crash attacks that can be incredible at dealing damage to bosses and enemies. I would look up a move list for both of them because this will help a lot. Neither of them can withstand a lot of damage from attacks, but you can save at all of the normal save points throughout the game with them. I hope this helps! Thank you for watching, by the way!

I watched an Ritcher only-video and using his sub weapons you can deal a lot of damage to enemies and bosses. So go HAM with the sub weapons.

In defense of the rerecorded voices for SotN, the new voice for Maria makes sense since she's 16, in the original voice dub she sounds older than she should.

I've not played a Castlevania game (aside from LoS on xbox 360, which as I understand things was a radical departure from the ethos of the originals). People citing this as a prototype for the Souls games and, in particular, Bloodborne has really piqued my interest though. I'm also beginning to make forays into retro gaming. and this seems like another port of call.

This title is a great start because it shows both styles of most Castlevania titles: Rondo of Blood plays much more like the old Castlevania games (besides Simon's Quest) and SotN started a new trend of being non-linear and an action-RPG. There is also a Castlevania collection on modern consoles that is strictly old style Castlevania. That is a fantastic way of playing all of those old titles.

@ 4:06 Right you are my friend, an' it feels *sooooooooooooooo good.* Then at the end you get *the Greatest Video Game Song of All Creation": "i am the Wind." i've played this game so much! One of the greatest values for a game that you will ever find. Iga's MasterWork! :D

Don't you find it remarkable that you can play old Castlevania games using the very same console on which you can play Red Dead Redemption 2 and other graphical masterpieces?

To get a physical copy of the original Symphony of the Night on PS1 is a long way from cheap these days... Going for damned crazy money.

Thank you! The changes aren't really anything big, just that things like the save room coffin and a few other objects look slightly upscaled. They still look pixelated, but not nearly as bad as my Playstation original.

@@redcrimson1028 symphony of the night has more features than the ps1 or xbox version that came from the Dracula X Chronicles. These are emulations, not remakes. They aren't going to magically look better.

Not sure if my controller is bad, but getting moves done on Ps4 is very non responsive at times, especially double high jump ( On symphony of the night ). I finished this game on Saturn version and pulling moves was so easy. Rondo of blood is great all around tho.

is posible transfer the data save from psvita version to ps4

I don't believe you can, sadly. It's been awhile since I have played this collection, but I don't recall any options for cross-saves.

They should've included Dracula X Chronicles upscaled (since they used the artwork for Rondo) and way more people would've forked out for it.

That would have been nice, but I have paid for Symphony of the Night as of this morning when I got this set on three different consoles

There's just one thing I cannot find for Requiem online: does the ambiguous "Voice Language" option in the menu allow both the games to be played with English text and Japanese audio? Symphony is so overly popularized that there's a myriad of translation patches and stuff out there to play it with English text and Japanese audio, but Rondo is not the same. There's one PC-Engine fan translation, but for whatever reason, it also patched in the really cringy English voices from the PSP release. I've been looking for a way to play Rondo with English text but the much better original Japanese audio. If this does it, it's an instant buy for me.

Thankfully I can say that if you choose Japanese audio, it is indeed the original Japanese audio and English text in Rondo.

Why couldnt they add wide screen?

I have both an xbox one and a ps4. Xbox is my main console. SOTN is backwards compatible on xbox one. So my main question is, does requiem look and play better in the collection? Or am i find just grabbing the xbox version?

Well I would say as far as resolution, they probably are both in 1080p, the Requiem version has a nice amount of trophies that are fun to get, it has the ability to play as Maria which isn't an option in the 360 version, and everything feels really solid in the gameplay. Plus you get Rondo of Blood as an added bonus. So since it costs $15 for the 360 one (if I remember correctly) and $20 for the Requiem version, I would say the extra 5 bucks is worth the extra content in my opinion.

I have never played Rondo of Blood. Is this the best version to play or is there another version I should fetch? The Wii version is out of the question, because you cannot add wii points any more.

This is the best way to play it for the price for sure. This version plays great and is pretty much exactly the same as my PC Engine original but this one looks sharper.

How is Trevor Grant and sipha in the game and not.playable... bo0000.. felt this way for like 25 years now

What has been censored? Is Symphony of the Night available from the start? One of my complaints on the PSP version is that you had to unlock that game first which sucks since Rondo of Blood is pretty damn difficult and I just want to play SOTN.

SotN is there from the get go, so you don't have to worry about beating Rondo first. The only thing I noticed being censored was in Rondo. The werewolf boss was naked when you beat it in the PC Engine version and in this version it is censored. No real big deal.

How do you save in Symphony? I keep dying at the beginning, and it wont let skip all the intro cutscenes. Seems like bad design. Its making me rage quit the game lol

You can save once you get into the castle as Alucard and use one of the rooms that have a rotating object in it. You'll probably know what I am talking about once you see it. You just go up to them and press up and it will ask you if you want to save.

If only they added a feature to switch to the old dialogues and va with the new release. I want husbando to play the game what i played before because he was curious of what kind of game was Castlevania before netflix. Told him it was awesome. Watching your review now makes me think if buying requime worth it or not, i really love the old version of it. I love those iconic lines they're the best not the new version dialogue so we can please everyone

The old dialogue is definitely much, much better for sure. If you have a PS3 still, you should still be able to buy a digital copy that is the original PS1 version. I hope they haven't removed it for some reason.

I always thought they changed the dialogue due to religion heard this game and hated it that they were portrayed as the bad guy. And lines from the bible were to justify the greed and sins of mankind that Dracula used against them. I love that i really do Thanks for telling me about the ps3 Castlevania hope its still there

I hope it is as well. If it is still on there, that version was fantastic and just as you remember it. Definitely the one I would recommend because getting a physical copy now is so difficult. The only thing about buying stuff on PS3 now is you have to put money into your Sony wallet on a PC (it reminds me of the awful points stuff that the Wii did for digital media) and then you can buy afterwards. I bought a few PS2 games on there recently and I had to spend $15 for a $10 game due to it charging tax. Just wanted to warn upfront about that.

It also appears you can still buy it for Xbox Live and it is just the 360 version that has backwards compatibility with the Xbox One and the Series X/S. So that is an option too. I never got to play that version but I heard it was excellent.

Because I had a very limited time to get through the game to get the review out, and I wanted to finish both games before reviewing them.

idk, maybe it's because I have been gaming since the early 90s but I just never really get all that excited about having "extras" with rereleases or collections. I never do more than a cursory look over them anyway. i can kinda see why some people are upset, but I'm just happy to have a cheap and easy way to play these as Symphony is still around 50$ on Playstation (original disc), and there is no way in hell I will ever spend the money needed to get an original copy of Rhondo and the crazy pc engine+add on needed to play it. I like retro games but have no desire to own some of more obscure and expensive systems.

I have been gaming since 1989 so I know what you mean, but in this case I own all of the expensive systems and games, (and I have bought each game multiple times) so I was just hoping for some nice presentation on Konami's part. I think the ports are great, I was just hoping for maybe a little thank you for the fans. Other game companies have been spoiling me a bit with that lately. Haha.

When i heard the dialogue from castlevania Symphony of the night i was thinking did they just changed the dialogue the cheesy dialogue was the icing on the cake. They left the cheesy dialogue in the xbox 360 version of it. Other than that they didn't butcher this than they did with silent hill hd collection.

That is because _Sony Interactive Entertainment_ funded & developed _Castlevania Requiem_ in its entirety Konamj had no involvement as such no lackluster third party indie studio was chosen for the job

The Japanese title for Rondo of Blood was Akumajo Dracula X: Chi No Rondo and Castlevania: Dracula X was a SNES game that was a spin-off of Rondo of Blood. It isn't as good as Rondo in my opinion, but still a pretty decent game.

sotn ps4 is just the psp version. i wish rondo of blood was the remake. its like what oh... konami... also did with the mgs collection they could have added the gamecube version of mgs1 wich i know was nothing like the original but they added the ps1 version

damn, I was hoping it was a brand new one. I'm getting so tired of people just remaking the same old games that I've played years upon years ago. I understand that they are trying to capture in new players, but give the old-school players something new please!

Yeah Konami has been fumbling the ball on that front for years, sadly. I will say that the Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon titles have been great for those of us who adore the 8-bit Castlevania titles, and the Record of Lodoss War Wonder Labyrinth game is pretty damn cool for being a Metroidvania clone that reminded me a lot of SotN (albeit a very short game). Maybe one day Konami will learn.

@@AGDGameland I still remember taking like three copies of Symphony of the Night to GameStop to trade in brand-new and they wouldn't even accept it, even though it was a brand new game because they said that they didn't believe in it and that it probably wouldn't sell well. I think it was considered EB games back then.

It's obvious that the workers there hadn't played the game. I know when it came out I talked to people who dissed it just because it was in 2D, and they thought that any game not in 3D was dead in the water.

I'm disappointed. I thought they were real remakes. Like rondo was for the Psp on Chronicles. But this thing wasn't even adapter for 16x9.

I mean, rondo looked like shit on psp xD. Pixel art vs shitty 3d generaly means pixel art wins. Everything blended together on the psp remake

nate joe Sony made a deal with konami to bringing and remastering the collection to ps4 so it make sense that is a ps4 exclusive.Sony funded the collection this collection wouldn’t exist without sony

Symphony of the night is pretty cheap? Ha! Try living in the UK, Pretty Rare and pretty expensive too, even Dracula X For The PSP is at least £50-£60

This review was made a few years ago when it was about $40-50 complete for the North American version.

Yes I already know how to turn the castleI'm a little pissed at this game because they did not bring it out for Xbox and I know how to get the strongest sword in the game

Oh lol you bought an xbox1, that’s why you were mad. I’ve made bad choices before too. I bought a vita instead of a 3ds/2ds. It’s still pretty cool but it didn’t last long with new games.

A lazy cashgrab? There ended up being nothing wrong with the games, but actually improved as you said with no framerate drops and have duel voice options you can choose. You literally said afew times that Rondo was only available previously on japanese PC. Also its a port for people to play yeah alot do galleries, more flashy menus but noone even really looks at it and dismiss it. You get a port of two games that run great, better than in their past counterparts. There are options for the screen changes to suit people and sidebar graphics but you complain because you prefer a boarder. Man was this a whiny and nitpicky review. Games are fun and worth the pickup for sure though. Goes along well with the other Castelvania collections they've put out.

I just told people that there were borders but I didn't use them, not that they were bad. I also told people there was no cheaper way to get these games and if they didn't already have them to definitely get the collection, so...yeah. I just gave my opinion on a few things I felt could have been better, which is part of a review.

At least PS+ Asia get this game for Oct2021

"Symphony of the night can be found on the playstation cheap". um no it goes for around 300 dollars and this is the cheapest price its been for about 5 years "playing as maria was something you could only do in the Saturn or PSP version". It is the PSP version. Requiem takes the PSP version of both Symphony and Rondo

I'm not sure which region you are talking about for it being $300, but a physical black label copy is going for anywhere from $69-$120 on eBay right now as far as actual sales, but it can be found for $9.99 on the PSN store for the PS3. Also, Maria was in the Saturn version of the game.

@@AGDGameland For a disc only copy it goes for that, if you want a case its around 150-200, and if you want the manual (which almost anyone buying ps1 games does) it goes for 300. Literally one quick search on both American and British ebay proved that. Do your research

@@AGDGameland And yes I didn't say she wasn't in the Saturn version, again a lack of research shows through in your video - the versions of the two games on here are re-releases of the PSP ports, with the Symphony port literally being the exact same with a rough upscaling to 4k on the Pro and 1080p on the base PS4.

I just looked it up before commenting and no, it doesn't go for $300 with the manual. The highest listing I saw while scrolling was at most $170 (manual included). Plus I looked at actual sales in the past 90 days and it was even lower. The PAL region version has always been a different story due to a much lower print. But you can get the game cheaply in several ways digitally, and when I made this video the prices for SotN were not high anywhere but there. I did my research.

I don't like the retranslation in Symphony, the voice acting is also worse, surprisingly.

Having to get a review done in less than a day after buying the game meant I had to speed through the games to get a proper amount of footage and beat them to make sure the ports weren't broken.

I just want to buy Lords of Shadow for PS4. These games sucked in the 90s which is why they was on one console.
