@@NeightrixPrime I know Warframe has grind but it doesn't feel like an artificially padded shitfest. This is EA we're talking about. They absolutely will pull an Activision and fuck with the number values to make the grind as long and tedious as possible to drive microtransaction sales. There also isn't a market in Anthem, unlike Warframe. So you're stuck with garbage you don't want if you get "unlucky." Which you will. Ergo, you're gonna be grinding more in Anthem.

EA wants Anthem to sell 10 million units in the first two weeks in order to be considered a success. That ain't happening for a game out of Bioware's wheelhouse, post Battlefront 2 controversy, and a Destiny clone that boils down to be "alright". EA just told Bioware to make Destiny with the EA brand and sell more than Red Dead 2. The saddest part is, if this was being made by Ubisoft instead of EA, it might have a chance to get better because Ubisoft has that rep of sticking with games that suck at launch and staying with them to fix them, we saw that with the Division and For Honor. EA dropped Mass Effect Andromeda like 6 months after launch and cancelled all it's DLC plans because "eh, nobody likes it", so I seriously doubt EA will keep Anthem alive long enough to get better.

@@dantr14 Nah, it really isn't a good comparison to Destiny though. There are guns and rpg mechanics, but the similarities mostly stop there. The camera is third vs. first person, the controls and gunplay feel nothing alike, the leveling system as of the demo is not even close to similar (and frankly, quite trash as of now), and the enemies are all too much of a bullet-sponge. I agree with Pat, it really is a better comparison to The Division. If they did Anthem right, it will at least have a bit more compelling game play by endgame.

Apex Legends is actually fun, but its not gonna be nearly as big as fortnite which is what EA wants

58:00 That uncooked steak analogy is made more terrible in that just after the podcast I learned a nearby restaurant has a specialty where they bring out your steak on a scorching hot Rock so you can cook it yourself to your liking. So yeah... There are people that do pay top dollar to literally cook their own meal at the table.

Hey, don't knock SoaR. It's for people who like all the stages of steak. You can eat the whole rainbow, from BloodyRaw to pink to cardboard brown. I get the comparison, but people who fall for that gimmick usually don't get the idea of Steak on a Rock. They wait for it to be to their liking and then get mad when the steak is only "good" for a few minutes. Don't order Steak on a Rock unless you like all or most of the stages of steak. Don't order Anthem unless you like...I don't know...broken games? I feel the more apt comparison would be steak on a dustpan. Wherein the waiter continuously serves up a marginally less dust and hair coated slab of cold steak till, eventually, you get an actual serviceable meal or the restaurant closes down for good. Whichever comes first. Probably the later.

@@RennyNanaya well chances are those cuts of meat are extremely expensive and you are generally purchasing the experience as well right? like you could ask the same question, why would anyone want to go to a comedian? just make yourself laugh eateries usually invest a bit of money into getting the connections to do that kind of thing (again its usually a very expensive meat) so its a lot more nuanced then someone cooking their own meat

Nor do I have the skill to cook a high quality cut of meat properly. They don't even provide an internal thermometer, so I can't even pretend to know I cooked it right.

With everyone asking "why not the whole podcast?", I'm pretty sure if they upload the whole thing on youtube then itunes, spotify, google, etc wouldn't get traffic and probably drop them. That'd be pretty bad with the monetization disaster that is youtube right now.

Here's my issue with Anthem: >Every aspect of its visual and mechanical design feels done by committee; it feels like a more brain-dead, less tactical version of ME2 or ME3. >PC build is broken as fuck, Bioware can't optimize the Frostbite engine to not take up 100% of my CPU apparently. >Every ability and combo is just targeted towards doing more and more damage. There are some variants in the way damage is dealt and distributed but... >None of the enemy designs properly take advantage of those ability's unique aspects. >The aspect of these suits being mechanized IronMan suits never seems capitalized upon. The Javelins might as well just be jetpacks because there's nothing in the abilities that makes it feel like the Freelancers are that much stronger than your average person. The super strength and speed that these suits should provide is never really implemented in the kits. Why is the Ranger's melee on cooldown? Shouldnt it be able to swing the thing like a whiffle bat if the suit is granting some level of super strength

Mmmm recieving these 1 hour long clips like going to a fancy restaurant and expecting them to hand you those cliche little appetizer lookin scams but instead they just SLAM a plate on the table thats bigger than your god damn head! Like, you gotta cancel your plans for the rest of the day B I G (Edit) Re-reading this I realise that it's silly to compare this podcast to a fancy restaurant. Lots of other podcasts can be compared like that, but Super Castle Beast is definitely a pub. This is a pub meal.

There's enough TF blood in it to be interesting, without making it way too hard for the casual gamer. Feels like an acceptable medium between skill required and mass appeal, though they could work on those visuals.

It looks like Woolie is the video game guy talking games, and Pat looks like an old man on his front porch politely listening to the young man.

I like the full length video uploads.

I really felt for Woolie when he talked about broader trends going out of their way to fuck over people's niche interests. Especially in gaming.

I'm so glad Pat introduced me to Quite Shallow (aka Quiet Shy,) she's so damn funny.

I feel like the biggest issue with "it'll get fixed in a year", is that EA's very beholden to their share holders and has shown zero hesitation to just outright kill a project if it's not making the money they want, and they tend to have astronomically over inflated projections for their games.

ended up back on this after seeing that anthem was being sold for a penny.

I just wanted to say that it's nice that Woolie is no longer stuck with the low framerate camera. But I will also miss the silly low framerate clips.

The worst bug i had was where I alt tab'd out of the game and when i tried to go back in I was greeted with a Black Screen. So I closed the game and went back into the mission my friends and i were doing. My custom paint I had for my character was gone, I would run backwards, I couldnt fly and would instead glitch out and hover instead, I couldnt use my weapons and I had no head. So my friends had to finish the mission while I glitched and hovered around. The worst part was that I painted my ranger like Crazy Diamond and he looked fucking dope.

Maybe they couldn't find the colors. Or maybe, just maybe, the game is not loading the customization settings from other players correctly. I'm looking at you too, Pat. Edit: I see Father Gascoigne left Woolie scarred in more ways than one.

The game just reminded me of dark void but with a modern day daily grind feel and I was one of those people who couldn't find the color customizer but after like 40 minutes of game play I really didn't care anymore I just deleted it

I don't think I'm gonna get this. Might just wait and see

I played the demo and loved it but I encountered some of the major issues they talked about as well I’m gonna still buy it but now I’m probably gonna wait till after it releases to see how it’s finished baking so to speak

Dunky gave the new KH game a 1/5 but I feel like I had a better time with that than anthem's "demo".

I know it’s a french word, but as someone who plays flight sims and is well versed in military aviation lingo, “sortie” is pronounced “sorty” like “shorty.” “sore-tea” might be the correct pronunciation, but real life pilots and air force personal would call it a “sorty” or at least the US and British do.

It's more so the idea that I live in a city where the original word is used everyday in life, so there's a reason for the way it's said. Both contexts make sense, but some specific folks who aren't aware the other exists then go on to assume you're just a dumbass, when they're actually missing information.

Talking about bugs in the demo....has anybody had the bug in the free roam mode where all mobs were invisible? It happened to me and I want to know if anybody else encountered it.

Was this a ps4 problem? because i played on pc and other then in the first weekend demo having infinite loading screens and the hub being terrible i was perfectly fine and the second weekend i didn't have any problems

oh boy, can't wait for Anthem to have probably 6 or 8 characters by the end of it's life time while Destiny 2 is still going to have more customization,Warframe already having 45-ish frames in game being already customizable and the division already being just more fun to play with friends.

All my first impressions have been bad, but I'm pretty popular.

Warframe is free and is made by an indie company. Anthem is $60 and run by a company with shareholders.

Digital Extremes is no longer an indie company. They may have been when they started Warframe but the amount of money they make and the number of employees they currently have no longer makes them indie. Not to mention they're owned by Chinese shareholders as well.

Multiple planets with varying mission modes, multiple warframes and weapons that play completely differently from one another and a fun, interesting and unique movement system (and yes I am talking parkour 1.0 here, 2.0 is better but 1.0 still had some neat shit) is "infantile"? And also all of the stuff I just said is completely free while Anthem costs $60 and has the most boring gunplay I've ever seen?
