I have a very distinct memory of me and my friends skipping class one afternoon. We hid behind the church, which had a wide view of the open fields. For a few hours, we goofed around, compared MP3 players and music libraries, complained about homework. It's the first time I've actually had a proper "golden hour" experience; everything looked so picturesque, surrounded by gold fields and laughing friends. Moved into the city for college, and somewhere along that, we all lost contact with each other. A couple got left behind, one left for abroad, and I barely saw the other friend that also went to college until our connection eventually fell off as we got more serious into our careers. I'm now doing graduate school and that one afternoon from years ago is still such a vivid memory. This song perfectly captured that feeling of growing older and looking back at childhood memories and connections that shaped who we are today regardless of how life had turned out. Ed is such a fantastic songwriter.

You are blessed. I was born in 1953. Grew up hiding under our desks, fulling expecting an atom bomb dropping on our heads. Fear was instilled in us. We didn’t know to question govt or media. Then when I was a teenager I experienced 10 years of Vietnam. Saw friends go away and never come back. My husband was drafted. We were 19. Got engaged when he left. He was killed in VM. HE was 20 years old. Be happy you aren’t living during a war. Many of us will never forget that.

I get chills when I listen to this

i moved to i lost all my friends two i lived in a city two but it was beutiful

I danced this song with my grade in fifth grade on the last day. It was something to remember elementary school before we moved to middle school. This got me so emotional.

3:30 the way the music changed to slow and sad broke me. It reminded me of the time my dog ran away and i had 2 or 3 dreams about him returning, but it was the last one that made me wake up nearly bawling. I was outside walking around in my dream and i saw him running over to me. I fell to my knees and hugged him and told him about how i missed him so much and i dont ever want him to leave again, then i said, "I really hope this isnt a dream..." And i swear my dog looked at me with the saddest eyes like he was saying im so sorry... I the woke up...cold and alone... "Im on my way, i still remembe these old country lanes..."

He has totally captured my youth. I’m 69 years old. But these lyrics are like what I lived. He is AMAZING.
