This video shows you the basic techniques used when casting Plaster and Stone powder. Preparing your mould, measuring, mixing and de-moulding. We are using Stone Powder in the video, but all the techniques are applicable for casting Plaster of Paris.

    I bought some latex chess moulds, and tried using plaster...the heads on them are small, and just break...where do you get stone powder from. I am thinking that would work better

    Plaster will faithfully reproduce the surface texture of the mould, if you have a shiny mould you will get a shiny finish, otherwise you may need to seal and varnish once the plaster is dry. Best regards Robert Aldous

    could you suggest a sealent for stone powder please? I’m struggling to find one that doesnt flake off after drying. Please help!

    @@lucyrussell8442 Hi Lucy - Try dying out the stone powder first then a coat of smooth masonry paint is a good base for further decoration with acrylics.

    Thankyou Id never heard of stone powder I will try casting with this there looks like theres less air bubbles .I always use hydrocourt .

    can i add coulor to the stone powder before it sets?

    You can but because the powder is so white it can overpower any colour that you add and really dilute it creating a pastel tone.

    Thank you for this video :) i’d love to know how to make these thin peelable moulds, atm i’m using a heck of a lot of silicone making moulds in boxes & there’s so much expense/waste! XD these look more economic and much easier to demould! XD
