*Used this today for first time **enjoyable.fishing** recommend caught four bass with it, it seems to be a solid reel so far. Very smooth and cast like a dream. I think its a good value.*

You have your bearings too tight. You should have some side to side play (not much). You will destroy those bearings keeping them that tight. When you cast, your thumb should be on the spool to control the backlash.

I was just going to say that. My son bought me the same reel for Christmas one year and I tightened the bearing cap to tight so I could cast as far as I wanted to. After about 6 months of that the bearings were shot and it destroyed the real. So after I got a new one I left it where it was when I took it out of the box and just learned to thumb it while I cast. It's not a cast control

Don't judge me: I had this reel in every single possible modification, configuration, style upgrade that's engineeringly available. Here we go: Main gear changed to stainless steel and increased speed (double dipping anyone?), changed for right hand retrieve to left hand retrieve (who said it can't be done?), changed bearing from stainless = notice word??? STAIN LESS?? - shit still rusts - not sorry for my cur...g..., anyway - moving forward, ceramic bearings helped, but damns, you're in for those birds nests. So how do you solve it? Keyword: neodymium. CP the shit out of it on the inner side of the clicker, of course - the small round ones, and you'll be surprise how an old school reel can outperform a fancy reel..! Start one magnet at the time - meaning, add one magnet, fish for couple days, if you need more mag drag, add another one next to it. Superglue works best to hold them in place. If you wanna reverse it, a flat screwdriver with a small tap hammer will kick that mag out in no time. Regardless, before braggers start to bitch about their fancy shit against what i said about this specific respected reel, I can ensure you that i own in value more reels and brands than their own multiple cars in their household. I shit you not. I started from the bottom, and while the top is unknown to me, i always had respect landing a 10 ft hammerhead on a Penn 4/0 from land, NOT BOAT..!!!, left head retrieve (don't ask why left :)) ).. so yeah. Money costs does not equals quality nowadays. Let that be a lesson learn. Tight lines (not bottom real-estate!), and enjoy what feels good in your hand and environment of fishing!
