Brede Solberg I suspect the slag he takes out while still in the heat are just impurities in the shell casings, if that’s the “thing” you’re asking about. If those casings haven’t been de-capped, they still have spent primers in them. Those will have tiny steel (I think?) anvils in them and the primer shell itself might be something other than brass. The primer is the small impact explosive that is struck by the firing pin and ignites the smokeless powder propellant. Just Google centerfire primer and you’ll see what they are. Could also be dirt/sand/rocks in them depending on where he got the casings.
