And what I think makes this both even more sad and heartbreaking, is that when Thuy Trang died in 2001, she died in September, a day before JDF’s 28th birthday. Thuy Trang: 1973-2001. Yeah during this time one ethnicity that looked east Asian enough could be swapped for another because they focused on common appearances and superficial aspects of culture, even if those groups never saw themselves as so related. A lot of the commentary focused on her soft spoken nature, looks, etc. which is something commonly associated with exoticizing asians, even if they are genuine qualities that the person might have.

@@dollysinn they can be but they aren't necessarily raised like each other and they don't often care for the fact that they're so easily confused for one another or stereotyped. They have their own histories and if you are basically confusing them for an ethnicity that historically mistreated them like shit, for example, they don't care for it. Also I'm not sure where you're from but I live with a lot of recent immigrants and everyone has their own personality. Folks from the cities in one country vs another have their own ideas of what is acceptable levels of loudness, for example. People from Beijing are used to things being loud and so can be loud and assertive themselves, regardless of gender, for example. Sometimes Asians are seen as soft spoken when in the west because our history of being immigrants demands that we kind of avoid trouble by appearing innocuous. It isn't always a free choice or a representation of who we are really so the focus on that can be offputting.

To be remembered for something after you're gone is all anyone can really ask for.

When I was a kid yellow ranger was my personal hero. She is Asian, she is agile and graceful that just speaks so much to me. I love her character and the whole image brought by the actress was impeccable to me. I wanted to be like her when I grow up. I was really sad to know that she died so young.

Thuy just seemed like a really special person. Like, the kind of person you want to hug every time you see her.

Thuy Trang has been a great inspiration for me since she's the first Asian actress to play Power Rangers. It really inspired me to be like a Power Ranger by doing martial arts. So I did take martial arts when I was 14 after I recovered from leukemia.

I always hated that the writers and producers of the show never wrote Billy and Trini into an on screen relationship like they did with Tommy and Kimberly. Billy and Trini were Perfect for each other! They would have made a really cute couple! :)

According to Austin St. John they could’ve worked at McDonald’s and gotten the same pay.

Despite of the hardships during production, Thuy is still loved and respected by her fellow co-stars as part of the family.

Thuy is a great Power Ranger and she will be sorely missed and l love Thuy and its so sad that she can’t be with us l will miss Thuy so much

What a legacy though…not just the Power Rangers but to have people speak so warmly and so fondly of you. After all those years. Thats a legacy.

Would love to see her audition. She sounded badass. I love that everyone loves her because she seems like such a sweet and beautiful person. Hope you're resting in peace and know how much you've impacted everyone's lives ❤

Thuy was the first crush I had when I was a kid. What the cast and crew in this video already said; Thuy was very kind, down to earth and very pretty. Her smile was truly one in a million. I was very sad when I heard she passed away and still miss her to this day :)

Car Guy the pink ranger is such a basic white girl that everyone wants at a young age because we’re all programmed by the media to believe that the typical standard of beauty is being white. It’s ingrained in everyone. However, as you get older you should be able to leave that mindset and realise that Trini was 1000% better looking than Kimberly. No question!

Sadly, I had experience with something similar myself. I had just started to make a new friend once I got into 6th Grade (so, I was only around 13 at the time), and then one day he is killed in an accident with a stolen handgun. He was there one day, and the next, he was just gone. And what makes it even worse, to me, is knowing that the person who had the mishap with the stolen handgun was one of his friends (he had found the gun laying on the ground and was trying to unload it when it went off and shot my new friend in the head). And that's not even the only time, the second time happened a few years ago. The son and youngest child of my old babysitter (he was just 1 year younger than me) was driving home from the hospital when he likely suffered a seizure behind the wheel, resulting in a head-on collision that resulted in 3 deaths and 3 injuries. He was ejected from his vehicle despite wearing a seat belt, and he died of his injuries the following morning. The other two deaths were in the other vehicle....a mother & father with 4 children, the youngest 3 of which were all seriously injured in the crash as well. It breaks my heart thinking about how much of a nightmare it was for that oldest child to find out that all in one night, their parents were gone and all three of their siblings were seriously injured. And it also makes me angry, since the local news tried to make it sound like my old babysitter's son was high on drugs, and *that* was why he got into the crash, they tried to make him into the "bad guy" when what happened was nothing more than a tragic accident.

I’m happy that Thuy is so loved. But I wish they had complemented her on her talents than how beautiful, soft spoken and often she smiled.

Thuy Trang just came off as kind and compassionate, I loved her character

That calm aura about her was always very striking to me. I had a crush on Kim like all boys my age, but I thought Trini would have been my best friend ever. I would very much have liked to meet Thuy while she was with us, and I hope the universe works in such a way that I'll get to say hello someday.

It's amazing to me how different Bulk&Skull are from their characters. Really nice and talented guys.

What an amazing interview featuring Skull and Bulk actors on their memories of Thuy. As a teenager growing up, wanted to see such documentaries to know of behind-the-scenes, so another evidence how internet brings content that may not be available in a 1990s shopping mall bookstore, etc.

She will forever be the Yellow Ranger💛 in my eyes! She maybe gone too soon but in the time she had she helped put on a permanent smile on every 90s kid who think of Saturday Morning Cartoons! She was part of a ton of happy childhood memories! 👊🤟😇🙏💕

The love the original cast had for her was beautiful. I only wish we could have heard the actress for Kimberly as they were good friends on screen.

The “various reasons” she wasn’t able to continue is because she demanded more money and was fired.

@@svfutbol20 probably but she probably walked and they stayed. It's one thing to request it and another thing to give an ultimatum. I have lost many gigs over the years because of pay rates not being high enough. Zero regrets.

I was devastated to find out that she passed those years ago. It's a loss for us all. She was such a wonderful person, and her career would have taken off to the stratosphere.

Thank you Thuy Trang! For being the best original Yellow Ranger, I couldn't remember you more since I never watched the premiere of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers after I was born. But now I remembered watching that show when I was little, I'll never forget you.

Kimberly was my first ever crush on pretty much anything ... But also knew thay Trini was cute as well, and so lovely ... She was something else. Is such a tragedy that Thuy didn't had the chance to be part of this phenomenon that the Power Rangers are today ... I got the feeling she would have loved it and be part of it with joy the way some of the other original rangers are.

I had such a crush on Billy as a young kid didn't even realize I or he was gay at the time. He was fucking perfect. Thuy Trang has one of the kindest smiles I have ever seen

She must be in a better place right now even if she really should have had more years to be with us.

I feel that Thuy should have been the voice of Mulan before she passed away. Sadly, I feel that it's such a shame that Disney never thought about her before to be part of the Disney family.

Thuy’s not alone anymore. Jason David Frank who died over a week is reunited with her in heaven. They hugged with comfort & joy. Tommy’s a Power Ranger God and Trini’s a guardian angel to all the rangers that are alive today. May The Power Protect Them. 🟢💛🙏

I wish Thuy was still alive so we would've been able to hear her side of the story and many fans would've been able to meet her at comic cons but unfortunately that'll never happen RIP.

I look back and didn't realize how gorgeous she was. I was in love with the pink ranger. But now, I'm thinking yellow. RIP

#RIPThuyTrang. She will be missed. It was great hearing her former cast members talk about the impact she had on the show and on them. She's the greatest Yellow Ranger of all-time in my opinion.

As a kid Thuy was one of my first crushes, and when I look at my family now I can draw a straight line back to that crush (my wife is Asian) . It was always about Zack and Trini for me. It broke me when we lost her, and I still think about her every time anything power ranger comes up. I wish she was still around. Even though I was a kid, and it was just a show, she did have a profound effect on many people. And in some ways still does. R.I.P Thuy Trang, the only TRUE yellow ranger. At least in my eyes

Such a beautiful soul ...Definitely made my childhood that much better. May she rest in peace.

Listening to them recant on her spranged ankle brought a real smile to my face(rarely happens anymore). Truly reliving sweet and happy memories.

My heart still aches knowing Thuy Trang was taken from the world!

I was a teen but with two younger sisters that LOVED that damn show, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was a guilty pleasure of mine. And I loved both Amy Jo and Thuy. Huge crushes. And it was a body blow when I heard about Thuy's death because it happened just DAYS after Aaliyah had died in her plane crash. And then 9/11 happened just eight days later. It was a really tough stretch but it's nice to see how well she was/is still remembered. Gone way too soon. RIP.

I appreciate this beautiful recommendation, KZread. Takes me back to my childhood. Looking back, I was one of many that had a crush on the pink ranger, but seeing Thuy as an adult, I can see what a beautiful person she was, with a stunning personality. Time passes between the times I think about my time back then watching Power Rangers, but every time I remember her death, it makes me very sad. This video makes me want to rewatch a show I haven't seen since I was like 7-8 years old lol

20 years today since we lost her :'( RIP Thuy Trang :'( you were so beautiful and are sorely missed. You death was so similar to Aaliyah who we also lost 20 years too. RIP to both of you! xxx

This girl was very beautiful and is pretty much universally loved whether you were a fan of the series or not. Taken before her time with too much light still left to shine on the world. RIP.

It's crazy because I never considered her pretty too decades back and even a few years back. But now I see she was stunning and very pretty.

Thuy was extraordinary as the yellow ranger and she had like a very caring nature to her character that made me respect her and thought that she is meant to be a Power Ranger. I heard about her death like some years probably like in 05-07. It was sad to hear about that because she was very talented and would have go places and been in conventions with the fans and would have been shown how loved she is. Thuy it is sad you're no longer here with us, but you should know that the fans and your costars love you and dearly miss you. RIP Thuy Trang.

We love you Thuy and us 90s kids will always remember you.

This tugs all the heartstrings after all these years. She is missed by so many.

i can barely get through the series without remembering that she's gone. RIP Thuy Trang and thank you for making my childhood amazing. You will be missed.

It's funny how she played such a sweet character like Trini....then went on to play a totally evil character who killed a kid in "The Crow:City of Angels". Damn good actress (and great person) that the world lost way too soon.
