Bring the cassock back for seminarians and priests at all levels. It is a sign for all to see.

At certain seminaries, the cassock is a ritual/celebration upon the mass itself. Thank God for the SSPV, SSPX, CMRI, and FSSP.

Tutti nel mondo ,compresi i 3 Regni della Natura , si distinguono gli uni dagli altri indossando uniformi o divise : il medico dal poliziotto, il soldato dall' operaio, il frate dal custode, il burocrate dall' insegnante di ginnastica, il re dal giardiniere, il contadino dal ballerino di musica classica , il collegiale dal cuoco etc . Così come un lupo da uno sciacallo, il cervo dalla renna, la conciallegra dal fringuello, il gatto persiano da quello siamese, l' aquila dal barbagianni, la foca dal Trichet etc. Perché da 50 anni i preti Cattolici si vestono come i boscaioli dell' America Settentrionale o come un comune borghese quando per dichiarare il loro lavoro nobilissimo di Pastore delle anime, di Ministro di Dio , c'è una divisa vecchia di secoli. Classica. Evergreen! Si vergognano di essere preti? Cambiassero mestiere.. Siano chiari. Sta scritto : .. se è un Sì sia Sì, se è un No sia No. " . Un infermiera ( in divisa al lavoro per tutti gli anni di lavoro) italiana in pensione. Grazie

except those seminarians that haven't been tonsured, plus the biggest problem is bishops who don't wear cassoks

I'm confused. I'm 75 and even in the 50s I never saw the 33 buttons except in the habit of a regular or religious order priest And the symbolism of black? What dues that say about hierarchs in purple and red?

Perhaps the symbolism was already being lost before many priests went to the shirt that is common today. I know the priests of the FSSP wear the 33 button cassock. As to the red for Cardinals I think that symbolizes the blood of martyrs. Can't remember about the bishops purple.

Okay just looked, purple is for royalty as bishops are spiritual princes.

Some deacons, like myself, wear a shorter sleeved cassok, to represent service. Deacons, while presiding at Anglican masses, are concerned with service. That's also why our other vestments are often short sleeved, too

The philosophy and interpretations of the cassock, colors and collar are interesting constructions though *not* historically correct. The cassock was primarily traditional wear of that time, with the meaning of the colors being added much later. Regardless, the meanings, symbolism and allegories are for a lack of a better word "cute". The history tends to be restricted to a few original reasons whilst , with a good enough imagination and philosophy, one may find a thousand and one reasons and interpretations of a garmet which is nothing more than historical.
