    Surely the beer at the top of the cask is closest to the free space in the cask and is therefore most prone to spoiling first. By contrast the spear type vertical stillaging system takes the beer fro the bottom of the cask - furthest away from the free space. I would welcome your comments on this observation.

    Hi Graham The CaskWidge extraction system adopts a novel approach to dispensing, that at first sight contradicts normal logic.The float holds the beer inlet filter below the surface. The beer is drawn off continually from the layer below the top break. Traditional wisdom would suggest that this might be the worst point - that the beer being served is likely to be the most oxygenated from the cask air. If fact this is not true. Trials show that by sweeping up beer from this sub-surface layer, any oxygenation and contamination is prevented from spreading down into the beer below, keeping it at its best condition! Opposed to traditional stillage and vertical extractor rods (if used properly) which both draw off the newly conditioned beer from the bottom first, allowing the oldest/most oxygenated and/or contaminated beer to be served last. The customer feedback we receive is always very positive, especially regarding great quality, great taste and the added bonus of extended shelf life in many cases. Kind regards CASKWIDGE

    Thanks for the reply that certainly makes sense. You have convinced me try the Cask Widge and if it works well I will extend across the cellar. I must say the vertical stillage spears are cumbersome to clean and store so I am happy to give this a try.

    @@MrsWidge the oxidized beer can be prevented entirely is used with a cask breather and co2 at atmospheric pressure right? whats the down side to this if any?
