Nick from Murphy & Son educates us on Cask Ale production, sharing his essential tips and tricks for brewers of this traditional ale.
What is cask ale? Cask ale differs from kegged beer and needs other treatments to ensure you get the perfect pour from the beer engine.
Cask ale, also known as cask-conditioned beer or 'real' ale, undergoes secondary fermentation in a barrel. Brewers of cask ale don't interfere with it, and they don't filter or pasteurise it. Fresh live beer is put straight into the barrel, still in an unfinished form containing some lovely residual yeast, where it remains alive and kicking until it lands in your glass.

    Just back from Leeds where I had beautiful Leeds pale through a sparkler and going to pop down my local Harvey’s owned pub tonight for a cracking pint of old ale served without. I suppose if it’s great beer served In lovely condition it doesn’t matter, loved the video

    I think not - but I cold crash mine as I do not use any clearing eg. isinglass.
