Casio SK-1 sampling keyboard (1985)
All sounds you hear in the track were made using the Casio SK-1 sampler or its factory sounds and were recorded to a DAW, where compression, EQ, reverb, delay and chorus were added as required. Individual drum hits were sampled from slowed-down SK-1 rhythms, to allow fresh beats to be built, rather than using the rhythms found on the SK-1 itself. If you hear something in the track and can't quite figure out where it came from, that was probably a vocal sample. It has a great 8-bit / 9.38kHz lo-fi sound; grainy and interesting...
The aim of this series of videos is to see what you can create using sounds from ageing home keyboards together with current production tools. Personally, I'm a fan of playing a vintage keyboard like this in its original state (not circuit bent) - it's more than just a retro toy...

CASIO! Where miracles NEVER cease! The brass ens is my favorite tone on this keyboard. The sounds from the rhythms are too but they are best used via midi or sampled into a midi controlled anything!
...the famous SK1 Brass Ensemble, my fave sound on the Instrument when I got it as a gift in 1986. After buying a CZ1 I realized that certain brass ens is a CZ sample with the difference to sound even more lively and interesting on SK1 by its narrow sample rate & the known fact to be shorter/faster the higher the hit key making chords more pulsating than a CZ does.

@@alfonsemusic I almost forgot to mention that SK1's synth drum preset's origin is also a CZ model & again has more depth and uniqueness on SK1.
So I just wanted some KZread demo to see if the MT-52 had indeed analogue beats, and now here I am, having passed 45 minutes listening to some great music and marveling (once again) at those great sounds you can get out of these lovely little tablehooters :) Thanks a lot, subscribed -- looking forward to more of your music!
Got one for 10 bucks at a thrift store and sold it on ebay. Wish I still had it.
