Casio G-Shock GA100 - Change battery and Set Time

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Swapping out the flat battery on a G-shock Ani/Digi can be challenging especially when it comes to resetting the time and ensuring the analogue hands line up and match the digital time. Here's how we change the battery and set the watch up so the analogue time matches the digital time!

    Good video. My G-Shock GA100 has been acting up and once or twice losing synch with the hands for about 2 years now, but it still worked after the re-adjustment procedure. A few days ago the battery finally died and everything went blank. When I changed it, the old battery (Sony) measured in at 0.81 Volts. So they can still go a long time from the first low-battery 'symptoms'.

The watchmaker should be able to inspect the caseback gasket, and either replace it or apply silicon grease to the existing gasket provided it is still soft, in one piece and doesn’t have any debris stuck to it. • @whatsstefon

    @whatsstefon

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you. I just had the iPhone on this, set to 2x zoom. That’s why it was also a little shaky. For the buttons not working, before you open the watch back up, have a look at the dial very carefully. You might find that the watch module has rotated every so slightly. This means the module holder, the large white plastic isn’t seated correctly. It’s very very easy to mess that part up. What causes this is that the buttons have springs on the inside, not coil springs, but little steel plates, and they have enough pressure to cause the movement to rotate out of place. This will cause the buttons to not work correctly, or at all. The giveaway is looking at the watch face and I would safely assume this is what’s happened. I explain this at 1:50 mark.

    You could potentially. However it’s best practice to remove the gasket, inspect it, replace it if necessary. If it is still soft, you can apply silicon grease to it and refit it, then once the watch is sealed up, it’s best to conduct a water resistance test.

When I press the adjust button, it only allows me to set my time zone, without any option to reset the time, date, or year, nor adjust the arms. Despite following the provided steps meticulously, I'm unable to effect any changes beyond the time zone setting. Typically, I would press the Adjust button followed by the Mode button to adjust the time, but this doesn't seem to be working. Also the face of my Gshock is different to yours. I guess it might be an older model. Any guidance on resolving this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Sorry the video is not really any help to you. If the face is different, then it’s highly likely the module inside is different, therefore the instructions here will not be related much at all. The best thing to do is look up the module of the model of watch you have, which on Casios is written on the caseback. You will then be able to find instructions for that module.

    In most cases it won’t really move. But most of the time it does line up correctly within the case. The thing that usually doesn’t line up is the watch module itself due to the spring tension on the buttons. You just have to sometimes remove the module and re-fit it or rotate it while it’s fitted. Be careful either way to avoid breaking or bending parts.

    Bastards. I’ve seen that kind of stuff with watches, with my former amp repairs and when I was a bike mechanic. I’ve always said it takes the same amount of effort, if not more to do the wrong than over the right thing. Plus, I’ve always also said to customers when I use to restore vintage guitar amps that I don’t really want to see them again unless it’s routine maintenance. I’ve had one amp come back, and that was because a component failed physically from the rigours of touring. I replaced it at my cost and five minutes later it was back to new. Keep a customer happy, and that $15 you “lost” helping them out turns into $1500 in future maintenance and them recommending you to their mates. I bet you’ll never take your watch back to that guy again.

    It acts as an insulator as well as a spacer. I'd definitely leave it in. However, if it doesn't stick anymore, and you don't want it in there, it won't hurt if it's missing. The movement has the plastic movement spacer there that covers most of the battery clip anyway.

  • @whatsstefon

    The AC reset stands for All Clear. It’s not always necessary, however while you’re in there you might as well. Some quartz watches don’t even have an All Clear feature. Specifically you’ll find it more on digital watches. It clears the display as there can also be the likelihood of “memory” in the liquid crystal. That’s my basic understanding and I hope it helps.

    You definitely do. Me 😂😂😂 The $20 Casio is equally as good as some of my more prestigious watches in the collection. I always say, a true lover of something will appreciate the bottom range for what they are and the top of the range for what they are. Casio is actually a significant force in this field. The G-Shock is an engineering marvel for the abuse they can go through. Especially their newer Carbon Core stuff that makes the watch smaller with the same level of protection as these big ugly things in this video. Not to mention the most sold watch in the world, the Casio F91-W which is the black version of the chrome one I showed in this video. Bill Gates wears one. It’s been in space (I own a moon watch as well. The underdog of moon watches, the Bulova Lunar Pilot). I’m currently watching Long Way Up. Charlie is wearing some expensive diver watch. Ewan is wearing the black $20 Casio. It’ll probably outlast a bomb blast. 😂

Some parts are so small that an ant would make it look like a grain of sand in comparison. There is a plus side to these g-shocks. Replace the battery every few years and enjoy the thing for decades. Compared to a high precision automatic or mechanical watch, where it requires a professional service every 3-5 years. And with a mechanical watch, a service means a full strip down, clean in a special solution to avoid destroying the jewel bearings. Reassemble the parts and oil the components with the correct oil. You need at least three different types of oils and a couple of different types of grease. Of which you use so little that you need special oilers that dispense a drop of oil that I would compare to 5% the size of a single drop of water.
