First watch owned when teenager F-91W Casio. Got older, switched to Seiko then Omega and then got a Rolex. Parents dies, find my old F-91W in my old room at their house,- puts it on the wrist, never worn the other watches since.

May be worth mentioning about the back of the watch - Casio does indeed have a factory in Malaysia, so the back being "Made in Malaysia" is not always fake. Casio has official factories in Japan, China, Malaysia, Thailand and Brazil. Genuine casio watches can come from either of these countries. Great video by the way, really appreciate it as a casio fan

I have made in thailand...all test i have good.

I was given a genuine f-91w and I gave it to my daughter as a watch for school, buying what I thought was another genuine f-91w off Ebay, the fact the price was just over a fiver should have been a dead giveaway. Putting the two together side by side I noticed the blue colour and gold lettering on the watch face was darker on the fake than the original, even though it did display the CASIO word on long pressing the bottom right button. Two things I also noticed that I don't think were covered in your excellent video was that the backplate on my fake was shinier than the original but more noticeably was that it was slightly distorted where the securing screws were fixed. The other thing was on the stopwatch. On the original the two dots would flash in synchronisation with the change of the digits, whereas on the fake it wasn't synchronised at all. A great video. Thank you.

I bought a F-91W and inmediately found this video and started checking if it was fake or original, because it really surprised me how cheap it was (I had no knowledge about its price beforehand). Thankfully it is an original one and it made me just question why would anyone want to make a fake of such a cheap watch

For those looking to spot fakes, the red triangles are also smaller and finer on the genuine models. Another thing is the pusher pins are milled to more of a point on the inside of the watch. You can see it in this video. The fake has flat pushers on the inside. Also, some fakes have the numbers way too close to the edge of the display.

Was bought a genuine Casio f-91w from Argos as a thankyou gift, currently retailing at £9.99p. Then today, shopping in Poundstretcher and they are selling watches which are blatant copies of the Casio, although they don't show the Casio name on the face for £1.99p. Neat. quite a lot of differences once you take a good look

The Fake F91 costs only 1$ a piece in asia. Its a good source of parts for my original one. You can harvest the batteries, and the band and sometimes the rubber back plate seal. For about 1,5 usd I could find a variant with silicone rubber band with same model, except the fake one uses actual springbars to hold the thicker silicone band. I grew quite fond of these fakes as they comes in many colours and variety of quality.

They did a pretty good job on the design. If you didn't have a true one nearby then you wouldn't have noticed that it is fake

Fantastic work you did! For the price I rather prefer the real one. This was my first watch 30 years ago and I still love them even having Seikos, Hamilton’s, Garmin’s and Apple Watch. Notting can really beat a good old Casio F-91W

@@user-fw2xm9np6z Very simple, if it drifts more than 5 to 15 seconds per month it's fake. Fake ones usually drift 5 seconds a DAY! Also if you open it and it has a chinese battery instead of a proper Panasonic one, it's fake. So if it uses a Panasonic battery it's accurate to a few seconds a month and it has a crisp good quality display for 5 bucks or so and it is still fake, hey tell me where you got it because you're definitely getting your money's worth ;)

These watches are so dirt cheap that it kinda blows me away that anyone would bother making fakes

Fun fact-the reason for fakes_ casio f91w is the most popular and most purchased watch in the entire world. If you fake it and sell even a small percentage of them as cheap a they are you make a lot of money.that is why they are faked despite only costing like 10 usd

I have a module inside a fake f91 that appears normaly the digital casio sign! But it loses 30secs a day and has limited visibility angle. The best & easy way is to check the display s visibility angle. Just as shown in the video. It is very useful to do so for any other lcd watch too.

Fantastic video, the only thing I have to tell you is that the system of pressing the right button and seeing the word Casio, in the Japanese model does not work since that system had not yet been developed by Casio in the 80s, like the system of Led lighting, in the modules 593 of the 80 did not exist either.

I am very surprised that with such a low cost watch someone would want to copy the Casio watch! I have seen on the net fake watches imitating the very expensive types. I would never buy a fake watch. Buying fake products promotes more counterfeit products in general. Many times people are cheated because there there are Scammer dealers will sell counterfeit products and label them as real. This happens very often when buying on line from unknown dealers. Also, if the price is sort of lower than the price it should sell for, you are more than likely looking at or buying a fake or counterfeit product. Buy from reputable rated dealers. Do NOT buy fake products!

Casio sells a million of these a year I think. Who isn't interested in getting into that market? I mean, it has been reliably selling for about 20 years... so if you can copy it, you can sell it.

So I compared mines its looks original on all parts but 1 point, the letters on the strap other than that its an OG. As a multiwatch owner "apple watch" when I put this on it feels so freeing taking me back to the 90's. Casio contains so much great memories its nothing compared to a new track-my-every-move watch.

I have original HP 12C calculators from different decades and factories in different countries. They are very different in overall feel, also in layout of some buttons but also in every aspect of the internals (different batteries etc.) Successful products over decades sometimes undergo redesigns to account for new technologies, regulations etc. Also the same product from different factories sometimes differs. What does Casio say? Are there official warnings of counterfeit F91W watches?

I wonder if we can improve the accuracy by replacing the crystal with a better one.

The Chinese have a special ability for taking any product, no matter how cheap is may already be, and making an even cheaper counterfeit of it.

Well I've got a early 1990's f-91 made in Korea.. it came from a reputable large UK chain (something like my 10th birthday present from my parents) . Strap had rotted and battery long went flat... Decided to restore it been a gift and all It doesn't do the CASIO when you press the 24hr button Has a white bulb as a backlight (not an led) I bought a "genuine" fake off eBay for £3.99 posted as it was cheaper than buying a new strap and battery!

I had no idea there could be such a difference in screen quality, even if there was a good reason for getting a fake, this would completely negate it

I've just bought two that I now believe to be fakes. They do pass the CASIo button test but the display is inferior to previous ones and one of these already has water condensation inside, despite over ten years of experience with previous examples in the same wet conditions without a hint of a problem. This one has only been worn for three days. Bought these for £5.50 each on eBay. Could have got guaranteed genuine for £8 each on eBay or £9 locally. Lesson learnt!

Mine is 11 years old. I only recently had to change the battery for the first time. The straps are no good though. The irony is the straps broke very earlier on so I replaced the strap with cheap rubber ones and over years of use, the straps did not break. However the holding the 24 hour clock button does not display the secret Casio authentication confirmation so mine could be fake? Even though I brought it from a well known reputable retail store. I have brought another one much recently from the same store and tried the secret authentication and to my surprise it worked. The question is now will the recent real one out live the one that doesn't have the secret authentication which is already 11 years old and has only one battery change?

I went through these watches 2 or 3 a year..would damage the face either scratching it, or cracking it.. but was no big deal because they were dirt cheap to replace.
