Cash in the Celebrity Attic - Richard O'Brien
Ойын-сауық
British celebrities rummage for collectables and antiques in their homes to be valued and sold at auction, the intention being to raise money for donation to their favourite charities.
Creator of `The Rocky Horror Picture Show' and presenter of `The Crystal Maze', Richard O'Brien invites Lorne Spicer to search for treasures in his South London home. He proves to be a generous donor when he parts with a valuable Victorian oil painting and a limited-edition motorbike, in aid of The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Charity.
Richard Timothy Smith, known professionally as Richard O'Brien, is a British-New Zealand actor, writer, musician, composer, and television presenter. He wrote the popular musical stage show The Rocky Horror Show in 1973, which has remained in continuous production. He also co-wrote the screenplay along with director Jim Sharman for the film adaptation and appeared on-screen as Riff Raff. The film became an international success and has received a large cult following.
If ever trapped in a maze, O’Brien is the man to help get you out, having presented four series of the famous television game show The Crystal Maze for Channel 4. He played the voice role of Lawrence Fletcher in the Disney Channel animated series Phineas and Ferb, as well as its two films. Other acting credits include Flash Gordon, Robin of Sherwood, Ever After, Dark City, Dungeons & Dragons, and Jackboots on Whitehall.

I had the privilege of working with Richard on the Crystal Maze show. I will never forget him. He is an enigma. I am so honoured to have been able to get that close (I used to plant the radio mic on him every morning), he was always polite, funny, charismatic and beautiful to watch, an absolute gent, and I wish I could do it all over again! Please send him my warmest and kindest regards and tons of love. Thank you Richard for being you..genius!!

Ahh. I’m really glad he was as nice as he seemed to be. Thanks for letting us know - I’m a little envious that you got to work with him
He is astonishingly well-preserved for his age.
Im convinced that there is a hidden room in Richard O'Brien's house that leads to the Crystal Dome.

Richard is such a seemingly lovely person. Very charming. He’s paved the way for weirdos across the world.
I met him once, he was charming, patient, and a true gentleman. I was quite young at the time and he was wearing a hat and glasses. It wasn’t until he walked away when it clicked and i completely lost my mind, as i grew up with the crystal maze and rocky horror ❤
What an amazing man Richard is. Not only because of he’s genius creating the Rocky horror picture show but also his generosity. So much respect for him.
Richard has always been a hero of mine, what a guy !... loved him also in Robin Of Sherwood as Gulnar... Blessed Be !...
Bought a tear to my eye , such a nice bloke .
He'll always be The Crystal Maze to me. Wonderful soul!
I've loved Richard since I saw RHPS the first time when I was a teenager. This video just made me respect him even more. What a great guy.❤
I'm literally screaming at these people. My God, to have something of his.

Legend of the Crystal Maze!
I'll be honest, I only watched this for Richard O'Brien (also the only reason I watched the 2000 Dungeons and Dragons movie---no regrets, he was awesome!). Throughout my life I've found him to be one of the most fascinating people and wish I could meet him just to say I've shaken the hand of the most interesting man in the world (with apologies to Jonathan Goldsmith). He's a real character to be sure, but he's just so genuine and projects a level of comfort within his own skin that others should envy. And that voice...I could just listen to him read me the phone book.
A beautiful man giving things he loves….. thank you for being so bloody genuinely wonderful human
What a lovely guy, always loved him, such a warm kind soul. Thank you for showing this.
He never ages! I'm so glad he has a genuinely big heart
One thing Richard has never lost is his ZANY wit & sense of humour. 😁😁😁😁😁😁👏👏👏👏👏👍😉
21:23 That's when I met Richard after Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Had a nice chat with him then he drove off into the moonlight on this bike.
What a lovely bloke, fascinating life, fascinating person, I really enjoyed that.
I'm in love. What an amazing, interesting, intelligent, and kind man. I love him. Bless him for helping these children & their families.
Now if he'd been selling props or costumes from The Crystal Maze, I would have paid a LOT for those !!!!!💎
What a sound and loving person.
Richard... you set the world on fire; not just a little warmer... it's blazing hot... because of you! Thank you!
His house is exactly like I imagined...full of charm and lots of stuff bloody everywhere...
What a wholly magnificent person Mr. O'Brien seems to be.
I thought he was going to say.....right follow me upstairs. This is a physical game. You've got 2 minutes from when I close the door.😉
So very loved is Richard. Brought so much happiness. And such a great cause for sick children x
One of the nicest most genuine and sincere down to earth funny eccentric and beautiful celebrities iv ever met he was charming and so sweet and what you see is what you get he was the same on here no different much love Richard o brief you wonderful human being xx

This auction is not his audience, if he were selling these items in a city with a pulse and theatrics you could double the values on provenance! I would bought anything he owned just because it was him regardless of the item! Lovely man and great story!

LOL! They blanked out the reg of the bike, throughout the show and then when they show it's listing in the action catalogue, they left it in.
I cant stop smiling watching this.
Richard was also a mortician in The Detectives - favourite word 'Putrefaction' which he used repeatedly 😀
A kind soul and a great laugh on the Crystal Maze. Love to mumsy RIchard. 😁
If every human was like Richard what a wonderful world we would be living in. His London home blew me away! That first sale wasn't an auction, it was a 'give away'. I know it was a few months ago, but if Granny's coat is still around I would be more than happy to buy it at a realistic price. Not sure how to make contact but I will make a big effort.
Love seeing Richard, a family favourite!!love to him...xx😁
Restoren my faith in mankind .Great , great episode .Iwas so pleased for Richard . Motor guys are the best .
Thank you for the great video! Richard is a wonderful person and an extraordinary personality) It was informative to learn a lot of new things about him. May God protect him. There should be more people like this in the world) With great gratitude for the story and with love for Richard, Miroslava. ❤
He also wrote the song for Goth group the Danse society's song in 82 called 'Somewhere' very good song.

Richard's Mercedes is stunning with immense beauty. He's a man with great style!
theres more life in a used coffin than there is in that auctioneer!
Richard, one of the most underappreciated composers/actors/vocal artists of our time. This video broke my heart. So incredibly sad. Auctions were held where obviously those in attendance didn't know or even cared about Richard O'Brien's name. Auctioneer in both auctions didn't even mention his name. Tragic!! If he really wanted to raise a ton of money for his charity, should have taken a page out the book of Elvira, the Mistress of Merch. She went through her storage lockers last year, put the items she wanted to donate into a gallery that was viewed for a month, did a whole web episode walking through her memories of each prior to the auction. Promotion, promotion promotion. Auction was done online as well as in person. She made a killing. IF Richard had enlisted the aid of the same auctioneers, the sales would have been triple...if not more. That motorcycle? If signed, would have fetched well above 10,000 pounds or higher. So many missed opportunities. The auctioneer didn't even try to encourage more bids stating it was for charity. WTF?? As for that green "Granny takes a trip" jacket. Richard, if you're reading this and it's still available, get in touch. Happily buy it and make a generous donation to your charity.
I really enjoyed this episode, I really did appreciate the painting, like Richard pointed out so much direction being created with touches of detail, and I am no bike expert but the motorbike looked gorgeous!

Wasn’t the right auction for a lot of the items
Good evening
This auction is a travesty--these are clearly NOT Rocky Horror Type of people ☹️ If this had been marketed properly, they should have made a small fortune
i wish they would go to bigger name auctions, these auction sites in the show are always the dingiest little backwater shed, friend of mine who is an appraiser said from watching this show, about 70% of the items sold are undervalued because they know the auction wont be impressive, take the guitar in this show, my friend said any day of the week he could get 650 minimum for it at auction without even trying, the jacket he could get 400 for at an auction where vintage clothes are often sold, the dog vases, worth 130 quid on a slow day,. my friend hates this show with a passion because he has proven time and time again that they undervalue knowing there auction sites are barely making money and are to cheap to go to more acclaimed auction sites
What a crappy room, nobody that interested in spending any money 🙄
These shows are just the worst scams of the elderly, the dude wanted to make money for kids and barely made the cash you could make on ebay. that bike is worth like 8 grand ffs. you couldnt but a normal moped for 2 grand brand new XD i really feel for him. he made nothing....and basically got ripped of for his stuff that should have sold for thousands.
What a complete oddball 🤪
