Hello, when I read about using slip for decoration in books most talk about deflocculating it. Is it because you’re using porcelain that you don’t need to do that or screen it? Thanks for all the great info

  • @annruel1982

I guess it all depends on what clay you are using as to how to prepare the slip. You are right that my porcelain clay is so fine that it really slakes down well using just water. With the immersion blender, it really does the job of making it nice and smooth. If I had a clay with some grog in it or maybe a heavier clay stoneware or something, I may have to handle things differently. I have a love/hate relationship with my fine porcelain. It can be a pain to handle and it is more expensive, but for my uses, it works the best and is worth it to me

Do you use to have problems when using a different clay for the slip than the one used for the piece to which you will apply it? What do you look at to make sure that there won't be any incompatibility? Ty
