Today in the spring woodland Ben shows you a quick craft project that this beautiful season offers. The month of May has strong traditions of carving wooden whistles and whilst on their walk Ben and Lois share this fun little carving trick with you. Hope you enjoy it.

Thank you for enabling an 83 year old man to take a walk down Memory Lane & for refreshing my memory on how to make wooden whistles like I did in my childhood & adolescence! From your accent I detected that you & your wife must live on the other side of the Atlantic. I look forward to watching more of your videos; & on the basis of this presentation, I am seriously considering becoming a subscriber. Almost 50 years ago I learned many rustic handcrafts when my family lived in the Southeastern Appalachian mountains in the USA. We now live in the Deep South. In my earlier years I was privileged to visit England, Ireland, & Scotland from which some of my ancestors migrated to America; others possibly came from Sweden or Switzerland. I am very blessed to discover your channel. May God bless you & yours!

So pleased to see you making this whistle. My dad used to make them for us as kids ( from Hazel) I remembered the twisting and tapping but not the rest. I’ll make one tmrw on my walk. Thank you so much

I've never seen this done with a sycamore, only willow. I've actually heard this style called a "Willow Whistle". Thanks for posting, it's been about 35-40 years since I've seen one made.

After determining your location, I immediately made my decision tio subscribe. It was 1970 or 1971 that I participated in a preaching mission to Great Britain. I was fortunate to be assigned to an incredibly quaint village by the name of Crishall. The family with whom I stayed were delightful and very hospitable. The gentleman of the house was a farmer, church musician, & also tended an orchard. Most likely, the time of my visit preceded your birth. As a new subscriber, I look forward to learning much from you & your wife: experimenting with new skills and/or refreshing former skills. Thank you again, and may God bless you & yours!

Are you trying to do it at this time of year? If so you need to wait till the spring flush and sap is rising. This time of year the bark won’t come off at all. Hope that helps cheers Ben

YOU MAKE EXCELLENT VIDEOS, YOUR KNIVES ARE FANTASTIC AND ESPECIALLY, THIS FOLDING KNIFE THAT THE SHEPHERDS USED TO HAVE IT. ANOTHER FOLDING KNIFE LIKE THIS THAT I HAVE SEEN IS FROM THE SVORD, FROM NEW ZEALAND. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT YOUR KNIVES ARE NOT IN GREECE AND THEY ARE A BIT EXPENSIVE.
