Excellent carving and presentation. I really like the way you show the angle of the knife and explain it's position in relationship to the cut you are making. In a video it is not always obvious that it is a stop cut or v cut, etc. Thanks for sharing your talent.
It’s a pleasure watching your carving taking shape. Thanks again.
Thank you for the time …. I’ve carved for many years and you have given me other ideas of carving
The best tutorial on face detail on a small carving I’ve ever seen. Really helps. Thanks!
Great job Alec. Thank you.
This is by far the best tutorial I've ever seen for carving faces. It is by now the only tutorial, where every cut is explainded very well and I am able to follow the logic to create faces while thinking in shapes and blocks. I was taking some screenshots, but at 15:59 I better left out .-D

Great job on this man! Wood carving is all about constant adjustments. That's what makes it an art. Really enjoyed watching your process!
Excellent video! I'm looking for an intermediate whittling project, and I am so glad I found you. Thanks, Alec!
Great piece. Nice job!

Don't sell yourself short. I love your whittles. You always add that touch of realism that sets them apart from the others. Some day I hope to be able to do that. For now I'm happy with my "Wimsey".

Thank you so much! I appreciate the encouragement!
So many helpful tips that I could have used a week ago (including seeing you push your thumb rather than the knife). I've been designing for animation for year and it's not as simple to reproduce in wood, especial when chunks kept popping off (thanks the the straw analogy). SUPER helpful video. Thanks gain.
How fun
After watching this I’m really excited to get myself in an online cottonwood class. Great instructions I can’t wait I have a very important project I want to tackle

I’ve looked at several of your classes online. I really need to get noses, eyes and mouth basically that whole facial area down better. I’m so far pretty much self taught just following along in videos until I saw your cottonwood carvings and the realism they allow. I decided I needed professional instructional I prefer face to face but due to my work it’s gonna have to be online. But I can’t wait to be honest because every carving I’m getting closer
Iv seen a lot lot of different carving instruction vids but not as yours considering how urs is very complete. Voice perfect and best iv seen for various style I love. Mad props please keep banging out the vids and talent. ❤

Hey Alec, Jim again.🙂 Good job on this video. Very well done indeed. I learned things from you just now that I didn't know before about carving the face. Thank you for that. Now I'm off to watch the gnome video seeing as you mentioned it. Sorry I'm missing your lives. I like asking questions during live streams better. Talk with ya later I hope. Jimbo

I will on purpose drag my carving a couple days,, because i love to carve..
To me, the hat was actually an excellent example of why shape before details makes sense. Otherwise you might have added all the structure and line work to the hat and then ended up carving all of that off again.
Like that U r the best in explaning Am new in carving Am not good in eyes Can u teach us more 🎉
Nice! Have you ever gotten into any fantasy-type carvings? They could have some fun detail. Orcs with big teeth and deep wrinkles, wizards with crazy beards, goblins with nutty proportions… there’s a world of possibilities. And a lot of nerds who would love it 😂
Another great fun video. Love the humor, use the wife's toothbrush, isn't that why we get married. So we can brush off the saw dust of our carving projects with their tooth brush and not have to use our own. Actually I've been using a fingernail brush which works really good, or maybe it's a vegetable brush, I don't know, not sure which one it really is but it works good.

Haha, you understand! Lol, I like the fingernail brush idea.
Which WorkSharp tool do you use and do you use it for your carving knives?
Bro your carving technique is terrifying as if you were using any other wood you would surely nick your self careful out there.

Interesting! I use many types of wood and don’t often cut myself, that said I’m sure could be safer!
thank you for the video! I learn a lot of new things! I love watching you! what knives do you use? Greetings from Russia!
love the o.g. carrving craft! do u ever use a dremel for basic edging?
do u happen to sell those carvings would love to get one for my walking stick top
What kind of wood are you using and greetings from Maryland
Did you ever have thumb joint pain to work through? Could that also be from knives not sharp enough. It got REALLY bad for awhile I had to stop whittling/carving for months like 9-11 months and is there any hand stretching you do
@AlecLaCasseArt

I actually do hand stretching pretty regularly! Check out some of the stretches online by googling hand stretches for pain!

@GOLD_MEDWED-men7778tDk
@GOLD_MEDWED-men7778tDk

@GOLD_MEDWED-men7778tDk

You must have big paws. You’re wood doesn’t look as big in the video as mine is.
We are wood carvers not whittlers .
