-back at it again with another carving and coffee edition where i set out to try my hand at a happy corncob carving. This is not a tutorial as its the best i can do to get the idea out of my head and into the wood .I started with a block of basswood 2x2x7 and used my Helvie and Occtools tools to carve and finished him up at home in the carving room

Don't worry about what your videos are about. We come here to spend time with YOU. We enjoy watching you do what you love. I enjoy the crafts and the nature walks with your family and the near death experiences. Keep it up and don't stress about trying to entertain us. You obviously have built up a group of friends who enjoy your company. All you need to do is be genuine and be interested. Thanks for all of it.
Doug-You have some of the Best videos on KZread.
Brilliant! When you were putting the 'hair' on him, I instantly had a vision of that eejit in the White House!!! Perfect rendition, there Mate. Oh, and my purple mug arrived the day I was moving house! It even matched the decor lol Thank you Doug :D
Godfather of creative carving. My respect!!
Doug, when I was growing up on the farm & picking corn by hand instead of a with a mechanical cornpicker, we called the silky stuff on the end of the corn , "corn silk" if there is a proper name for it I never heard it. By the way if you go out in a cornfield on a warm night after a rain, and stand real still you can actually hear corn grow. It makes some light squeaky sounds. Try it some time. (corny but true) God Bless
Doug, I love this kind of video. I envy the fact you can go out in the woods with coffee and Fin to carve without having to look at a picture or watch a video. Tnx's
I enjoy both types of videos, talking or silent. You post it and I/we will watch them. Thank you for taking the time to share this with us.
Awww that s**t eating grin on Mr. Cobb is too cute! You're so talented Doug. God surely blessed you. PS: your coffee scoop is perfect 👍
I love your videos. I don’t find them long because u explain the necessary details. I think that is very important. If people find it long they can fast forward the video. I really love how you explain everything. And I love all your characters. You are very inspiring with your videos. Thanks for such awesome entertainment.
Doug you are such an inspiration. I do a little carving from time to time and you and Gene are my favorite to watch and every now and then I try one. I love your carving a bear and I’ve done 4-5 of those. Keep entertaining us just like your doing, change nothing.
The entire presentation was just magnificent Doug. Thank You. ! . Now you have a whole garden of ideas ahead of you.
Fantastic carving. Thanks Doug. I always look forward to your videos.
Shucks, that was a good one! You are out standing in your field! Got me looking at my vegetables in a different light for sure!
Even your corny videos are cool! HA! How I have missed your "Carving and Coffee" videos. Thank you Doug!
Doug you have a great imagination, never would have thought to carve an ear of com! When I was a kid we smoked dry corn silk in mini corncob pipes. Thanks for sharing. Love my new Woody mug! 😎👍👍
That's your corniest, cobbled together, smooth as silk, project yet. Just needs a little butter dripping off. Mr. Finnegan was faithfully on Sasquatch watch. Good boy!!
OMG!!!! Too cute! Please make the carrot and maybe a head of garlic and a potato....a head of cabbage....fall veggies and rest them in a basket of straw for fall. I LOVE YOUR CARVINGS!
He's so happy that you picked him! The little hairdo is called "silk". Nice little memory of tasty Ontario corn.
Fantastic off the cuff carving. You are the man. I say that because you worked on and completed the work all the while the mosquitoes were feasting on you...
Well Doug...you never fail to impress me and with this video I am blown away !!! Keep up with these videos and I will be your best fan me thinks !! Thanks so much ol buddy
Corn Silk. And he is a cute fellow. Makes one smile. Good job. A garden collection would be cute. Carrot, onion, green or red pepper, tomato, radish, what ever. 😺💞
Thanks to you I have just started hand carving. My first attempt was several mushrooms on a based made from some Cherry logs in my friends garden. I don't have the right tools. I am using a Stanley blade and a saw. Sand paper and then using olive oil to treat the wood. I was very surprised by my outcome. Once I'd put them up on Facebook all my friends want to buy them. Next thing I'm going to attempt would be a small face on the mushroom. Thankyou Doug for the inspiration . Shall follow your work. Badger.
Nice video. I love how you make a chunk of wood come alive. Enjoyed every minute!
my grandparents always call it the silks. you are my favorite carver. i can't stand anyone else. LOL
The coffee and carving vids are what I live for! In case you care to know, I personally thought this was an excellent length of video, and I do like the chit chat. I love the odd things you think up or find to give a whirl at, feel free to show us some failures if that ever happens too haha might be funny. Alright, thanks Doug, love the channel
Between you and Shawn James you have the best videos and I wish I could do carving like that
Ur the best doug...been carving since 89 and i love the simplicity and ideas of ur carvings...ABSOLUTELY beautiful...jeff. alta iowa usA
I love it. I could watch you do this all day. And I like the idea of the whole vegetable garden. Please don't skimp on your steps worrying that the video is too long. It could never be too long.
I've never felt you were blabby, Doug. Some people feel they have to speak non-stop the whole time they're taping which gets a little irritating but I've never had to pause you to take a break. I don't notice the length of your videos until you mention it. No complaints and heaps of praise!
Great intro music plus content. Already looking forward to your next video, thanks, Doug.
THAT turned out great!! Video length was perfect too. It matches the natural pace of carving. Not to be rushed.
Doug, these woodcarving videos are perfect to use for your in between camping videos. Great Idea. Keep going!!!
Love your carving Doug and your beautiful boy looking so smart.
I went out with the intention of doing an overnighter, but came home due to traffic noise. So thank you for a nice peaceful video today!
I love how happy you are about the carving, I think he is great
Corn cob is cute. I like the silent video. Just the beat of the axe hitting the wood nd other sounds. Its relaxing. Thank you.
Doug, I very much enjoyed this video, I have missed you coffee and carving. Very nice, thank you. 😁
I like silent videos, so you aren't alone with that. You weren't lazy, the big kernels are Field Corn, that is fed to animals; it is tough and not as sweet. Corny the Corn Cob is a hoot. Thanks for sharing your talents and fun things you made me smile despite the health woes today.
That's a GREAT idea to carve a garden patch. Vegetable guys and gals as a centerpiece for your Thanksgiving meal!
Doug, your videos are very well done. interesting and a pleasure to watch. Thanks for the joy of watching what you do. This is very creative stuff!
Simple coffee and carving videos are great! I love seeing the surroundings and dog etc... it’s nice 👍🏻
What a fun way to sip down a cup of coffee. Video length was fine. From a block of wood, reminds me of the kool aid characters Goofy Grape and loud mouth lemon and such..
Best corn cob man I’ve ever seen! Also the only corn cob man I’ve ever seen! Awesome carving and great video. Can’t wait to see the carrot!
Doug ... I’m still laughing; your caricature is hilariously funny!!! Job very well done!!!! I’ll be doing one of these next year as my skills progress. Am currently in the process of putting my carving kit together and plan on starting carving in November. Thank you again for your inspiration!!!!! Until my next comment, me and mine wish you and yours all things great and good!!! Take care, be safe, all my best and God bless!!!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas, USA. 👍🤠🐩🖖✝️
Thank you , Mr Doug .
First video I’ve watched of yours. Been carving for years. Love the corn cob man. He is on my project list.
Love it Doug so creative carve on brother
Outstanding Doug.. I would like to Thank You for getting me into carving... I love Christmas and love woodworking.. I now focus on Ornaments.. But I find something I like I carve it.. You are an inspiration! You may not think so but you are... You describe how you do things that are an easy way to understand.. 1 carve is all it took hooked for life.. Thanks Doug!! Great Job on the corn cobb!!! Love it!!
Awesome. I was itching the whole time watching those mosquitoes dance around you. Super cute

thank you so much Doug! been looking forward to another coffee and carving video for a while! you never disappoint.
I like the silent videos and the talking ones but it doesn't matter I like all your videos thanks for sharing Doug 😀👍👍👍 Man I'm really gonna have to make one of those that looks Amazing great job 😃
Loved the video and loved the 'Corncob Man' too! I liked your idea of doing a whole slew of vegetables (and fruits too).
Now that's Cool!! A Happy looking 🌽 Corn on the Cob 👍👍
I just sat through this video and have really enjoyed it. Your carvings are amazing and I love them. Thanks. Vivien
Doug really enjoyed the video and love when you put them out on Fridays gives me something to work on all weekend.
Carrot, onion, celery, cabbage, peas in a pod I think you may have something there. The happy veggie series. Or a "wired" coffee mug carving.
The correct name is "corn silk"; however, each is a tiny tube attached to an ovary. When proper pollination takes place each ovary turns into a kernel on the cob. The silks are generally a very light creamy yellow with dark brown tips. Your corn man is to awesome for it to matter!
SUPER video Doug!!! I too REALLY like you little corn cob fellow!!! Such an original idea carried out perfectly... Totally agree with others regarding you carving a whole garden patch of vegetables for your Thanksgiving decorations. Keep up the great carvings as you certainly are an inspiration to me and I'm sure many, many others!!! Safe and enjoyable carving and bushcrafting to you and yours ALWAYS!!!
Hi Doug, just wanted you to know that your videos have really inspired me to take up woodcarving, Like yourself I was trained as a carpenter, I am now 65 years young and run my own dog boarding Kennels and the carving is going to be a great hobby for me. Also like you I am on the go 24/7 and I like fishing so we have a few things in common.......your introduction to woodcarving series is great and looking forward to the next one on materials etc........take care and all the best........Doug Cumper .....(Doushal Kennels). U.K.
Doug, first very cool carving, love it. Second dont stop talking, love o that too. Third , fact: for every piece of silk there is a kernel of corn. Yes that's true. Keep up the great videos
That is so cute! His SILKS look good brown!
Fantastic carving. I don't mind a silent video, but it's so nice when you are talking to us. I like your humor and crooked angles of life ..... keep it up ... :)
Thanks! Enjoyed that! Great smile on that corncob!
I say you can make the length as long as you feel you want to. People who can not sit that long at a vid, can save it, and watch it in two parts or 10 .. As for me, I enjoy the process and everything that goes along with carving wood. I enjoy when you share your thoughts about what you are doing and how you think you want to have something turn out. It helps me with my own carving as I also have to struggle getting the ideas in my head onto the wood. So watching and hearing other carvers ponder out loud actually helps with problem solving and overcoming obstacles that the wood and our technique toss out at us. Please keep up the great carving vids. I think they are the best. Heck grab a stick and carve out some stones from it .. who says sticks and stones can't enjoy the same space. Or was it break our bones ? .. Loved your corn silk on top of the corn as well .. or corn hair as you call it. why not ? ..
Brilliant. Just love the final product. You are a creative role model for us all.
Corncob guy turned out cute! I love to watch you carve !
Ha ha ha... Homer Corncob ! Thanks a lot Mister Doug for this good time laughing and carving. Amitiés de France
Excellent!! Absolutely excellent!! You did a great job Corn Silk!!

No Doug this is the perfect video with talking..Thank you!!
Silk , is the hair 😂 awesome job loved it can’t wait to see the veggie family
LOVE this idea! Thanks for sharing! Your videos are always so awesome Mr. Linker - whether they are silent or not (do like the commentary/instruction, but also like the very calming silent ones as well - love both styles)! God bless and thanks for inspiring your fellow man (and woman ;P) / human kind! :) Please never stop enjoying life and sharing your creativity.
We always called the silk a tassle! Great video, keep doing what your doing!
Yup the pattern is in your head and your videos are not silent as I can hear the wind in the trees and the carving cuts. Fasinating watching the piece come to life!
I absolutely love this little character!
I love all your carving, this one wouldn't look out of place in any kitchen, agree a full set of veg would be fun
Bravo the Artiste , thank you Doug.
That was fantastic!! Carving something different. Thank you for the video. You sure are an inspiration! 🌽
Totally enjoyable video Doug. Have watched several times and am half way through doing one for myself.
I hope we get a fall this year. It has for many reasons gone from summer to winter recently. Don't assume we will not sit here and watch a long video of you carving, it is relaxing to watch.
I really enjoyed this! I appreciate your style and channel very much.

Great video Doug 👍. That new hair cut 😉 taks 8 years off you . 😊
Corn Cob Man made me smile.
Definitely one of your best carvings, I like it.
Very nice video. Not too long at all. Nice setting for the carving and prelude walking through the corn field. Well done
