7 PRC is very close to 7 LRM. PRC is a slightly shorter case, but probably closer to a standard magnum overall length.

So this is a cool video, and I think it's worth mentioning that it's a bit of a remake and seems to be definitely influenced from a great youtube series called Sniper101 from TiborasaurusRex from 11 years ago. This take on it is a little updated, but Sniper101 is definitely worth checking out. it's a multi part series with a TON of good basic info. He does 3 or videos on cartridge dynamics, bullet selection and cartridge selection and it was those videos and his charts that got me started in long range over a decade ago.

After this video, i don’t understand why the main marks are stop of making the long range rifle platform in 7mmRM caliber. I love that caliber and i have some problems on find a new long hunting rifle with the 7mmRm. Right now only find 6.5creemoor, 308 and 300wm in every single company. Thank so much for that amazing video. You have a new subscriptor. Loving your channel

Love looking at the numbers! Debating on a 6.5 PRC vs a 7SAUM right now for a well rounded hunting cartridge. I'm really liking the idea of the 156 Berger EOL's in 6.5 PRC. Thoughts?

That's a tough on right there... If I didn't already have a lot invested into the SAUM when the PRC came out, I'd have definitely gone that route, but the SAUM loaded lightly with 160 class bullets is still perform better due to the inherent high BC of the 7mm bullets. Run the numbers though!

So a year late to the party on this video but for anyone reading looking at the 30 Cal's, I've had better results with both the 212 ELD-X and the 215 Berger HT out of 300 PRC with a 24" barrel. While the 230 has a higher BC its a small difference and the boost in muzzle velocity means that the intersection where the 230 starts to beat the 215 isn't until like 1050 meters (close to 1200 yards- .354 G7 for the 215 vs .368 for the 230). Now that's my numbers with my handloads out of my rifle on my range. I also only played with H1000 and saw better relative performance put of the 215's than the 230's. 3015 fps vs 2840 with better ES/SD. Your mileage may vary. But it's worth looking at the 215's for the 300 PRC/300 Win Mag class of cartridges if you're a 300 magnum guy. I've got too many big bears around, I like having the big bullet with a big frontal diameter 🤣

A great video, thanks for doing this. I'm currently torn (or was) between .308/6mm/6.5 for my next rifle as I'm just getting into practical rifle style shooting here in the UK. loads of guys shoot the 6.5C and love it but a few stalwarts do really well with .308. After watching this video I'm now removing 308 from the conversation however, the 2x 6.5's are now in contention along with the 6mmC!!! What sort of barrel life would you expect from those three at those velocities? I'll go and Google it now, but would love to hear your thoughts. I'm just getting into your videos and IG account so forgive me I've you've covered this and I've missed it so far.

A 6.5 CM you can expect them to go over 4K if you're not beating them hard. A 6.5 PRC, you can expect somewhere around 2-2.5K A 6 CM you can expect to get max 2.5K if you're shooting them slower, around 2950. At normal speeds (3100+) you'll probably get around 1.5-2K

  • @AlanEaston

@@MODERNDAYSNIPER so the 6.5C would be a good bet then, comprising a bit of balistics for the cost of swapping barrels? Barrel swaps can get really expensive in the UK so is a big consideration when looking into these things.

My 300wm shoots a 208gr pill at 2996fps, obviously loaded long (will still mag feed) with good brass life. 10 twist, 26" long, sammi chamber. Federal sells a gmm loading with 215gr bergers at 2850fps loaded past sammi. The problem I see with comparing new style cartridges to old is finding load data for loading long is not available. X amount of powder under x bullet will always produce the same velocity, just have to reload not following sammi specs, which most people are doing anyways. A great example is the 6.5cm, almost everyone reloading is above max pressure (not pressure signs, past max from the data) to get that edge competing. So the the point of view I have now is, find a bullet I want to shoot at x range, then find a cartridge that can push it the speed I want. So for me a 230gr bullet is 300rum territory

I’ve yet to understand why the long range community is still running numbers in 6.5 PRC with a 140 class bullet. Heavy for 6.5 would be the 156 Berger. You can easily get 2900 fps out of that case and still have the velocity, drop and drift numbers that you have with the 147 ELD without burning the barrel. I know this because those are my numbers in my 6.5-284 running the 156 Bergers.
