I picked up my Cartier tank Xl last month. Normally I’d wear a Apple Watch, so this is my first real watch. It’s absolutely beautiful and incredibly comfortable.

100% agree, in fact the Reverso was the rectangular dress watch I THOUGHT would be in my collection - when I tried on both, it was the Cartier Tank that ultimately won my heart (almost immediately)

Congrats 👏 I’m assuming a good portion of the mechanical pieces Cartier offers will be sporting the MC2947. Great addition with the mention of the guilloche hand carving 👍

Just got my Cartier Tank Must extra-large with black leather strap today and gosh the options for interchangeable leather straps provided such personality/personalisation! Loving the look of the watch in spite of my female 15cm wrist and feel that it looks good regardless. Fits my criteria of having a date and having automatic movement and the stainless steel strap option was just too chunky/ bulky/ heavy for me (though was recommended by the SA as the stainless steel strap wears better). I love how lightweight this leather strap option is comparatively and can see myself wearing this everyday (and probably getting a girly pink alligator strap soon!- but it’s a pre-order of 3-6 months!)

Wait until you start putting in on the Barton fabric straps. Cheap and lots of colors. It helped me start wearing my must XL on warmer days.

Not sure JFK had a Tank, he had an Omega Ultra Thin gifted by his friend Grant. It looks like a tank from far of. JFK gifted a Tank to Jacky for a wedding anniversary though. Very nice watch.

I wish they had the automatic movement in the large. Large is perfect size IMO. XL wears too big for the tank. Although, quarts isn't much of a bummer for me tbh. I appreciate the more affordable must line, the LC is obviously the goat but I don't want to spend €14k on the tank. The XL is lovely, the guiochee dial, the date window, the automatic movement-it's perfefct for me except size.

Thanks so much for the kind words and for the support! I have to say, outside of trying to remove all shake and vibrations when trying to shoot macro footage, changing into the different outfits plus my studio lights = one very hot room 😄 and totally, the classic/traditional setup for the Tank is "small watch, classic design" so I can totally respect and appreciate your stance on how you'd wear it. And to make a long response even longer, I think that's what's missing in the watch community - people being open to and understanding of the fact that some people like an oversized (for their wrist) watch, and some like a very small watch with the smallest footprint. We shouldn't say "you're wearing it wrong" but rather just appreciate the watch itself, regardless of the wearer and how they choose to enjoy this hobby 👍

@@thetimist Yeah but I like that you took the time, its really hard to get a feel for watch just seeing it on the wrist but those angles with the whole body puts it in perspective a lot better. Yeah for sure! I mean I wear a big Navitimer 43mm and I love it but I can still rock a smaller cartier tank without it being an issue. It all depends on the mood, outfit and what you are going for :) Have a good one!

Bingo - agreed on all accounts! A watch held in the hand makes for a tough sense of size/dimensions whereas if you put it on the wrist and show "on-person" images in a more natural setting, people can get a better understanding of the look and feel. Also, I LOVE the Navitimer! Mine's 46mm so it's even larger! I made a video about it as well, give it a watch if you've got the time - cheers!

Ronning, bigger or longer lug will only make ugly sight because of the bridge or distance from the watch to your skin and to the strap. (See hamilton khaki)

@@dennisberceles7387 Any watch that doesn't have lugs that curve downwards will result in the look you describe - but it also has a lot to do with the shape of your wrist. Some people have a more curved wrist, others are more flat. It really depends on the watch, the size of the watch, the lugs, and the wrist shape. The best part is that there's a watch out there for all of us! 😄

Great video. I’ve had one of these since December of 2021 and worn it pretty much every day on the black calf skin strap. It’s incredible, the finishing is really impressive. I was lucky enough to pick up a bracelet recently, the guy at Cartier hooked me up. Unfortunately it stopped running a couple of weeks after I got the bracelet (weird coincidence) it’s being serviced now. I miss it a lot! The xl date window needs to be moved just 0.6 - 1.0 mm down South, i guess. Or the roman numerals should be altered 1 mm denser, or closer to the center perhaps? At least those xi, xii, i, v and vii. But that would change the whole proportion, of course. Or make it as dateless as in high school, just like the Large version.

Sounds like you've give it a lot of thought and dissection - I'd be curious to see all these proposed versions sketched out. That last bit about being dateless actually got a laugh out of me, well done :)

I love it as it is a tank, is mechanical and has a deployment clasp, but it is just too darn big for most wrists. The large model is wonderful, but it is a quartz and does not share the same clasp. Dilemma.

A dilemma indeed! Have you tried on both to see if the XL is indeed too big for you? I don't mind either by the way, the Tank is traditionally a smaller watch, and I would have been happy with the large, but I did prefer the XL because of the automatic movement and clasp. If you're willing to spend a lot more $ and are ok with vintage, there is a Tank Louis Cartier "Jumbo" which is a yellow gold automatic version (the only one in the Louis Cartier line) that was released around 1975. It's not as big as today's XL, but it does have the automatic movement and the clasp you want, with the added class of precious metal :)

@@thetimist I have not tried on the XL, but have tried on the large Must tank. I have to make it to a store (closest one to Louisiana is in Houston) to check it out. I’m already ahead of you with the Tank Louis, but I prefer a silver look to match my platinum wedding ring. I thought of the tank Americaine, but that is a different shape (would love to have that also). Thanks for the content!

The Louis Tank is a manual wind mechanism and it comes in large but you'll be paying a substantial premium. The Americaine is an automatic mechanism and comes in various sizes but it commands a similar premium.

Haha, I hear you - traditionally/historically speaking, the Tank was always a very small watch, so even the XL could be considered small by folks today. I see both sides, there's something elegant about a small, precious metal Cartier that says class. But I also think the XL has its place. Regardless, I'm happy there are multiple sizes so people with differing wrists can hopefully add one to their watch box :)

It really does! There's something to be said about a "small Tank watch" which is a thing, but I agree! Ultimately, at the end of the day, people can wear whatever they want so long as it makes them happy :)

OK, that seriously made me laugh out loud! In the past, no one who would "traditionally" go for a Cartier watch (i.e. the older target audience) would know who Tyler The Creator is. But given the massive uptick in watches within the pop culture psyche since 2020 thanks to younger celebrities wearing hype watches, plus the arrival of the MoonSwatches creating watch buzz and bringing a younger audience in, and people like Kevin Hart/John Mayer/Nico Leonard/Adam Levine/Logan Paul (all people with massive followings) the spectrum of "people that pay attention to watches in some shape or form" has broadened significantly. Perception is reality - so if you perceive all the factors I listed above (plus many others which I'm sure I haven't called out, or even know to call out because who knows everything?) then I would most certainly say that yes, people know who Tyler The Creator is AND these same people are into watches, albeit all with varying degrees of knowledge :)

I'm sorry i just don't agree the xl is just too big it's size distracts from the original charm of the original Louis, even the 26-27 mm as worn by the "icons" you mentioned looks like a petit jewel, a suprise. i tried on a 26mm recently and on my average wrist it still worked, in fact looked great, even though i have an Americaine 43mm and a 42 ballon bleu the 26mm still holds its own. You can spot a Louis from across the street and know what it is (i certainly have). The XL frankly, in my opinion looks like it is "Trying" where the original just " is ", is style, is classic. I subscribed to encourage, look forward to seeing your upcoming reviews.

I completely respect and agree with basically everything you said. I just, for me at least, really appreciated the mechanical movement and the addition of a date on the XL. I have an 8” wrist. The XL has presence on my wrist, the “je ne sais quoi” of a Cartier Tank and has an automatic movement, beautiful second hand and a date complication. Awesome watch.

@@tanachip Excuse the correction the small original is not actually a "Women's" watch or size for women. this original size at 26mm, although small by todays standards was for decades produced as the "standard' to be warn predominantly by men. for example i have an Tank Americaine from 1995 at 23x42mm and at first sight you'd think it a women's watch but when made in '95 there was no doubt it was a men's watch. our perception does change with time, and fashion of course.

@@keviemac I agree that it’s not for women. But it’s actually not the “original” size, but a bit smaller. The small is 29.5mm x 22mm, and the classic Tank is a little over 30mm x 23.3mm. Probably why they call it a “small,” and immediately jump to a large at 33.7mm x 25.5mm. It’s a “small” because it’s smaller than the classic, and the large is “large” because it’s larger than the classic.
