Carson Transfer Station

I was lucky to get the opportunity to take a tour of the Carson Transfer Station along with my friend. The staff there is extremely friendly and the transfer station itself is a lot of fun to tour. I was able to see many rare/unique garbage trucks running out of the Los Angeles Hauling and Compton Hauling sites. This yard also has tons of older equipment from BDC Special Services, like WhiteGMC Road Commanders. Lots of awesome trucks and carts here. This video mainly shows the trucks unloading on the tipping floor of the facility.
The Carson Transfer Station is owned and operated by Waste Management. It takes in trash and yard waste from much of the South Bay area. Their operations run 24/7 - literally. They have tractor trailers running out to the El Sobrante Landfill in Corona, CA to unload the trailers and come back to pick up another load every hour of the day. They have two shifts of drivers, day shift and night shift. Many of them work the night shift just because there is less traffic on the freeway and at the landfill during the night.
I was able to get a tour of the El Sobrante Landfill a little over a year ago as well. I learned that their facility takes in garbage from many cities across Southern California. They receive trash from their own Inland Empire Districts - Corona and Moreno Valley, the North County district- Oceanside, LA Metro Districts -- Carson and Compton, and as of this year, the San Gabriel Pomona Valley District -- Baldwin Park. So it was impressive to see so many hauling companies sending their garbage out to one landfill.
This was actually taken over a year ago at the start of 2013. I was originally going to make this my 100th upload, but I haven't been getting footage because I've been so busy. I very happy with the way the video turned out, and I'm glad I was able to capture so many cool trucks in here.

Also at the end there is a picture slideshow, so be sure to watch all the way through the end! Got a little surprise in the slideshow! Unfortunately, I did not get a picture of the WMX International Pump Truck that they have. For some reason I didn't get a picture. I was actually waiting to get to that side of the yard to get a closeup picture instead of a far away shot, but we never did get to it unfortunately :( I believe they do still have it though, so next time I'm in Long Beach, I'll try to get a picture.
HUGE thank you goes out to all the staff from Waste Management Inc. for allowing me to tour the Carson Transfer Station and the El Sobrante Landfill!

GarbageSean Thanks! Yeah and the walls made all the engines even louder too! They were honking to let others know they were coming out because a back-up alarm isn't too useful when all the other equipment is also backing up as well haha And I will right now then!

Thanks! I agree, but their variety was WAY better just a few years ago lol It was fun to watch them unload, my first time actually!

Thanks bro!! Yeah there were some awesome trucks here! That WXLL reminded me of ABQ's lol when I saw it outside the transfer leaving, I was like, "Oh man I hope it comes back!" And then it pulled in 15 minutes later haha Thanks again bro, really appreciate it!
great video! Someday, you gotta visit the davis street transfer station. not sure if they are open for tours, but i know schools can get tours
***** Thanks! Yeah LA Hauling and Compton have a pretty good variety, but it was a lot better just a few years ago. Gotta love the CNG haha jk WhiteGMC Roll Off was my favorite!

Thanks! Haha down here in Cali we've been getting new trucks every year. There's a fleet, GI Industries (my most recent video), that washes their FLs daily and their other trucks at least once a week!
How many roll off trucks are at the transfer station
So there is zero separation/recovery, it all just goes to the landfill?

At the time of this video, whatever went here was the waste already picked up from the trash and greens containers. Recycling went to a different facility

Nope, this place works well for the drivers. Close to all the routes and traffic moves fast in and out.

***** i mean its one door in, one out,then you got to watch out for other drivers.we have 11 doors to back into,and that seems like a safer way to do it. I got a vid about it.

Yeah it was a trash compactor but the place that used it put cardboard in there too instead of getting a recycling compactor.
