Compressor surge only happens on throttle. It's a very distinct sound.

No that's turbo flutter. Surge is where the throttle plate is open, and the turbo is making more boost than the engine can take, so it goes back in the turbo. flutter is when the throttle plate is closed , and the remaining boost ends up being chopped up by the compressor blades. Surge is dangerous. Flutter might be harmful. No evidence for it though since turbos don't last forever even with a BOV.

My hks ssqv 4 sounds like that. The ssqv 1 i had, older type was great, loved the sound of that until it started leaking. :( Also had a blitz which is ok, dont seem to open until higher psi tho so id get compressor surge say anything bellow 10psi.

Many of these video show turbo flutter. Usually this occurs because there is no BOV installed or it's installed incorrectly.

Most of these weren't BOV's, most of them sounding like fucking star war sound effects lmao

From 1:40 and the ones after that are really high pitched are most likely cx racing blow off valvs but apparently its tricky to get that cool video game sound

Hks ssq4 bov or sard bov is all you need

I actually filmed the video of the 350z at 1:31 back in 2007 or so, and it was dual HKS SQV...

1:36 by far my fav

1:37 best sounding one.... U gotta get the loudest one u can...man i wish I had money I'd have the sickest taste in cars

i found it funny that at 0:29 seconds you can see in the bottom left of the screen is the HKS blow off valve NOT the Tial depicted.

2:32 and 2:53-3:02 this has one of my top 3 BOV sounds. If I have to have a high-pitched one, it's gonna be this.

That is because it flutter not a blow off valve making that sound.

the "stututututu" sounds are not blow off valves. the sound is coming from the compressorwheel when the air is trying to get out.

My favorite part is when you had the type rs bov on the screen, yet showed videos of the type s 😅

If im not mistaken ( i probably am), in that one there is actually no bov, the air is coming back to the turbo and the blades kinda "slices" the air and produces that noise

The r34 at 2:51 has probably no bov. If you want the fast and furious Sound hks ssqv is the way to go. If you want the stutututu you have to run no Bov at all. I prefer no bov or ssqv cause the normal bov sneezing is weird.

I'm no expert, but it sounds like half of these clips are the sounds of turbo bypass, and not a functional blowoff valve

Where's the turbosmart ones? Especially the race port. I wish gready still made their type s bov, I love that highpitch whistle but if not that the turbosmart race port is the next best sound wise

It got discontinued due to it leaking ater X amount of miles and blowing turbos. The Greddy RS is a mix of the S and R models which were greatly improved seals and springs.

Definitely not enough boost to really hear the hks. You can't run low boost on them to hear their real sound

Not very many BOV's here.. it is called boost surge.... the reason you hear the"stututututu" is because You get a rapid, strong fluctuation in turbine speed and air pressure when the throttle bodys closed and the turbos still spooled up. A BOV opens your intake to release the boost pressure when the throttle closes, wich allows the turbo to stay spooling quickly, keeping the boost pressure up when the throttle opens back up.. all theyre for is smoother acceleration on quick shiting. They have nothing to do with your over all HP.. really, it just eases turbo strain and inproves your 0-60.. if the turbo is small enough, the turbines wont have enough momentum to change the amount of boost drasticaly enough to beed a BOV at all. Theyre just for sound unless youve got a larger turbo or abnornally high boost pressure. This has been turbski tech, -by Imagine xD

Imagine A World ok wow. opens up intake to release all the boost you just built up, so you can start all over again because off that looong grampas cough😂. When witout The boost stays in the pipes and you have less "lag"(atleast my setup Works likethis). Plus all those cheap China bovs that sound so fu#king stupid and Leak all the boost out.

There is no difference in turbo speed between running a blow off valve and not running one, people have literally tested this on a dyno, there is no fluctuation in turbine speed, the turbo speed drops like normal because exhaust flow is reduced.

It's not a BOV, it's literally just Turbo compressor surge (a.k.a. turbo flutter) so, no BOV

Double horned prototypes from old days were waaay louder let all that air out , most get stuck and ends up back in the turbo again just wrong sized for application, besides blow off valves if I ever want a really high pitch spool never ever go past an anti surge compressor
