Oh I love this. Ive met Carrie a few times- shes so sweet. I met her the day my mom died and she just gave me a hug- which was what I needed because I got tired of people asking me how I was.

That's great. She didn't care that she hardly knew you. Amazing woman. I can't imagine what she went through in 2017. That was a hard year for me, too. However, in some aspects, she had an even harder year. I'm sure she thanks the Good Lord everyday for her blessings & that she came through it. We learn more from the difficult experiences, if we choose to. God didn't intend for it to be easy. She is just as stunningly beautiful as she was before the accident. Life is 10% what happens to us & 90% how we handle it. God bless you Carrie & your family! Merry Christmas!

I've watched Carrie from her American Idol days, how she could ever think that a possible scar could ever take away from her is beyond me. We love her for her beauty inside first, her music talent second and her outer beauty last.

I saw this interview on tv and I thought something was off with Carrie. There’s something she doesn’t want everyone to know and she has that right to not share it. With or without scars, Carrie is beautiful inside and out.

This was 5 years ago and when I see her I think of her "accident" .. I never believed it completely. She either had plastic surgery or there is something going on in her life she wants to keep quiet...it's her business of course, but she's got a secret.

Absolutely love Carrie Underwood, it's inspiring how she got through her injury with strength, dignity and spirituality

I can definitely see there is something different. But she's still beautiful. I hope someday she feels comfortable enough to not hide it with makeup. It's just part of her story and makes her who she is.

I love Carrie..she's SO inspiring...I'm on a journey of getting fit,I've lost 116lbs in 1yr and a half..I'm constantly playing Champion in my head,now I'm training for my very 1st 5k run , I just turned 42 last wed😊💜

I fell down a flight of stairs recently - it was SCARY. And I cried for 2 weeks because of how I looked - like I was not myself anymore. After a month you can barely see anything anymore, that doesn't mean it wasn't bad.

Gosh, I am so glad that so many share the same opinion as me. I was afraid to leave a comment because I didn't want people to think I'm insensitive, but honestly, I am really tired of hearing about this. So many other people in this world suffer from so much worse. This really is kind of ridiculous.

I think sometimes when you have a severe injury like she had , there is deep bruising, and the cut usually has a bump and you don't know how it's gonna heal and I think that's what concerned her, Carrie you're as beautiful as ever stay strong. ❤

40 stitches IS severe and being a head injury, Im sure there was a significant amount of blood. Her wrist was likely pretty painful and the surgery and screws slowed down the healing of that injury as well.

Ne'Cole I agree. Even if she fell on her face. 40 stitches? Did she fall on glass? No broken face bones? The only difference I can see is her top lip is a little off. Anything else makeup would probably hide.

pinky wave Like Jimmy Fallon's freak accident when he tripped over the rug and his wedding ring was caught on the counter somehow. Jimmy came out in a waud of bandages. You could see that he almost lost the finger. Carrie is "to" worried about how pretty she looked afterwards. Because she's Carrie Underwood the hospital was going to roll out the best of the best surgeons. She blew a chance to appear approachable to the fans. Tina Fey has a scar for days. Doesn't dwell on it. I don't think that the "real" story will ever be told. 🤔

Honestly, same thing happened to me in Feb and i experienced the same emotions as her. I could barely look at myself in the mirror and it felt like i lost a part of myself. The recovery process wasn't good. I looked like a different person the first few weeks because my face was swollen af. Unless you've been in her shoes, you've no right to judge the way she handled the incident. It was very traumatising for me because i kept having flashbacks of the incident and i'm still recovering. I fainted and busted my left brow, and had 7 stitches. She had so much more...i'm glad she's doing much better now. Please be sympathetic

I had two serious eye injuries. The first...medical malpractice which left me with the eye fully turning inward and severe twisting in my face and it was permanent. I looked horrible. I finally found a surgeon to do experimental surgery and after he did it I was smashed in the same eye. I’m blind and my face and eyes make me look nothing like I once did. I was considered “drop dead gorgeous “, “stunningly beautiful” all that went away at age 29. I’m in pain every day. Carrie has no injuries to really speak of. I don’t know why she acts so weird other than she’s covering for the enormous amount of cosmetic surgery she’s obviously had done on the face. She should talk to someone like me. Then she’d know what real facial injury and damage is.

This was not an interview. They title it "opens up" yet gives no details on what actually happened, where specifically she got hurt, what got torn or cut etc. This was more like a promotional video.

I think that what people don’t understand is that she is an entertainer. Her job is not only singing but looking good. So I can totally imagine her freaking out about how that would affect her career or even her singing, the injury was in the mouth. Even the headlines comparing the before and after. I think there’s something terrifying about you not looking or being the same person you used to be. And that’s what she felt

Raquel Caicedo I think she did get plastic surgery but who cares. If I have even a fraction of her money when I'm her age I will too. But true. A lot or people forget that looks (sadly) are at least 50% of the job

That’s what I’m saying. People who interview her, and then her famous peers in the audience were looking at her all starry-eyed as if she was coming back from some sort of massively tragic near-death experience. I truly am sorry for her accident, I wouldn’t wish that sort of thing on anyone and I’m not trying to make light of it, I guess I’m just a little confused is all.

no details on the fall. its like people are afraid to ask her what specifically was messed up? what plastic surgery was required. where was your face torn? they kept inserting her performances....was it an interview or a commercial? people are too awestruck with her. and interviewers are no longer interviewers, they are fan girls. sorry hoda

I'm not a Country Music fan at all but I have loved Carrie and her music since American Idol. Her cover of the Heart song Alone blew me away!

Lets get a fact straight... Carrie did NOT blow this so out of proportion. That would be magazines and rumor starters who are looking to cause drama. Carrie had nothing to do with the nasty people drawing attention to her accident just to cause drama. I feel sorry for the people saying she did it for attention. It's like people WANTED her to have more horrific scars. Props to her for dealing with this with such grace and not letting mean people bring her down.

Exactly. I can’t say for sure, but it seems like she brought it up herself maybe twice on social media. Then it gets reported by 5 million publications and video outlets and suddenly she’s accused of milking her injury....and if she had 40 stitches around her mouth and nose, it must have been pretty darn ugly. She’s right, no way could she know at first how it would ultimately heal. And she pointed out that she’s got a team of make-up artists who can cover it up...”paint and spackle”, I think she said.

Thank you, Hoda, for this interview with Carrie Underwood. She IS the real deal...sweet, strong, faith-filled, hard-working. She can "cry pretty" any time she wants to. I agree with you that how a person treats people is truly important. However, you are entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to mine. I must admit that I am put off by your absolute, empiracle statement, scolding me that "you're wrong." That declaration is no way to diplomatically get along with others. If you treat ME this way, how were YOU treating OTHERS when you worked where she lives? HOW do YOU treat people on a daily basis? It's ok to stop and think about it....a little self-evaluation is a good thing. Watch out for those imperative statements like you used towards me, because they are nasty and can get you into trouble. Suggested reading: "The Gentle Art of Verbal Self-Defense" by the late, well-respected Suzette Elgin. It COULD be a nice addition to your personal library. I wish you well.

I really don't like to accuse people of lying but her body language tells me everything. At 1:08 when she blinks her eyes when she starts talking about the fall people do that when they are not telling the truth or not sure what they are talking about.

I tripped over a solid steel dog leash and fell down 6 steps, head first onto a driveway landing on my forehead with a majority of my weight on my neck and upper body. I was dazed for 15 minutes or so. I am so lucky I wasn't paralyzed from the neck down considering the way I fell. I had deep abrasions across my forehead and a slightly sprained wrist. I totally get how it can happen.

People are so quick to judge and condem her. She definitely looks different around her mouth especially on left side and anyone who knows her know she had to have surgery to put her lip and face right. Excuse the fact she was not burned or had to have brain surgery. Give her a break. She obviously has suffered a grave injury and that is traumatic regardless of severity. She is a compassionate, shy person in real life and all the crazy stories regarding her accident did not come from her, but the over zealous media speculation. They kept feeding it and creating a negative monster. Sorry for those who feel that breaking a wrist and smashing your face into concrete is not serious enough. To her it was serious enough.

While I see your viewpoint, I do think that she should be more open about those things. There’s also that she did say that she needed forty-stitches in her face, and she didn’t tear up. I think that that really is all there is to it! Our family had all sorts of freak accidents! Sometimes, these things just happen, and while they have full rights to say that they don’t want to talk about it, they shouldn’t be to worried about sharing it. What I’m kinda curious about is what inspired Cry Pretty? It seems like she was singing about something very personal, but I would think that if it was about someone she knew at the Vegas shooting, she would’ve released this a LONG time before Champion!

I think she probably had some plastic surgery and doesn’t want to say she did because she’s so young. I’m glad she’s OK I can’t really tell because I don’t see any scars but then this day and age make up is magic so who knows and really who cares

Honestly, it seems like everyone else is making it a huge deal. Yeah, she addressed it first, but like she says in the video - within the first couple of months after trauma your scarring can change so much. As an example, I was mauled in the face by a dog 7 years ago. My entire left lower eyelid was split open, the inside of my upper lip on the right side was detached from my gums, scarring on the side of my nose, etc... and it looked BAD. I think I had a total of 32 stitches, between my eye and inside my mouth. And for close to four months after that it looked awful, and regardless of there being people who have it worse in life, it is emotionally traumatizing to look in the mirror and not see “you”. It may seem vain, but until you’ve seen yourself look like Frankenstein and seen the reactions of people close to you, it’s hard to understand how that can shake you, and you have no idea if you’ll be stuck that way or go back to normal. Nobody even believes the attack ever happened now because ER doctors refused to touch my face until a plastic surgeon could come - and I’m a nobody! Imagine a medical team having her on the table, OF COURSE they would fly in the best of the best plastic surgeons fix her face. Sure people have it worse, but I think facial trauma in particular is a hard one to grapple with for a lot of people... all she said, only 3 months after the fact, was that she might look a little different. If she hadn’t addressed it and the scarring remained bad, the marital abuse rumors would be flying more wildly than they already are, at least she was able to get ahead of all that. I don’t know, having been through a similar situation with my own face, I get it and believe her.

My husband took me to the ER where the patched me up. Went to the dentist the following week where my tooth was repaired. This all happened on my day off. I ent to work the next day and was sent home saying I looked to scary to be working with people. I still have a scar there but it looks like a pronounce wrinkle now. I never had plastic surgery and I can cover it up with makeup if need be. So I relate here.

Ive been a victim of domestic abuse. I feel like there is more to this story. Usually when someone had a legit accident they dont hide. Women try and hide when its abuse related. I pray it really was just a freak accident.

KoKoDaVelle Her husband wasn’t even home at the time& if you really knew ANYTHING about Carrie’s marriage,he literally treats her like a queen & if it was a choice,he would worship the ground she walks on.She hid because like the rest of us,she has every right to heal in private.The fact you STILL can’t be satisfied with the explanation she gave & are trying to pin abuse on a guy that most people say wouldn’t hurt a fly,shows that you really have no idea of the kind of marriage that Mike Fisher has with Carrie.Not every guy or husband is abusive just because you were a victim of domestic abuse!!She said it was a freak accident,why can’t you just leave it at that?Not everything is some huge conspiracy theory!!

You have no idea how her husband treats her beyond what they show or he or she says. People used to think my family was the perfect family, but no one knew our family secret. No one knew that my father was beating my mother and emotionally and psychologically abusing all of us. No one knew, so please don't act like you know, because you don't. They show the world what they want them to see, but family secrets are always buried down deep. I am not saying her husband is abusing her, but I also know that it's always a possibility.

oy vey. Nope- youre wrong. She fell. Her career is partially successful because of her face. She injured what she sees in the mirror every day. She was also worried how her son was going to react to her injury. Shes shy so Im thinking shes probably pretty self conscious, especially knowing people would enjoy snapping pics of her out and about. Im so clumsy that Im having another surgery on my elbow that is going to leave a 6" scar. I have a large scar on my wrist, a few on my face, in my foot from having stitches. None are the result of me being assaulted but because Im a clutz and its EMBARRASSING that I injured my elbow originally wacking it off my frig. I injured my wrist when I was a teen. I hate that Im so clumsy and shy away from talking about how I injure myself on a fairly regular basis.

My husband had a freak accident in the bathroom. I heard him scream BABE !! And when he came out his face was full of blood I was crying rushed him to the hospital. He simply felt dizzy while using the bathroom (no. 1) ended up on the tub and opened up his forehead 10 stiches. Still have the scar. It happens and I believe it is due to daily stress life and body is asking us to slow down .

I swear Carrie Underwood is stunningly beautiful! shes a power house I just freaking love her and her music! Carrie you girl are a true woman! a very strong and amazing one at that!

I was thinking this interview would actually reveal some information about what happened, or the extent of the damage (broken bones, lost teeth?) - but it really didn't, so the title is misleading. I don't care that much, but feels like there's more to this story that she doesn't want to share.

Lisa T If you look back on her Instagram she posted a picture of her wrist and the metal she had to put in there to help it heal and it looked like a pretty nasty injury and that metal will probably be there for the rest of her life.she is never going to show anyone her face because she is under no obligation to show anyone what happened on her face.

I find all this attention she is seeking from a relevantly simple accident to be very disrespectful towards thousands of people all around the world who do have truly life changing injuries to their face and their whole body; life long disabilities, chronic pain, loss of limbs, loss of ability to lead a normal life, loss of income, no access to proper health care. If she is traumatized, then she should raise awareness for all these people, not herself.

I know this is old but you’ve said it so well. There are so many people, including myself, that have had serious facial injuries and are damaged in many ways for life. I live in pain from 2 eye and face injuries and haven’t looked like myself at all for most of my life because of a bad doctor then a gang who assaulted me. I’m blind. I can’t work. She could be giving some money to help those people who really need help instead of wallowing in her vanity. She sickens me.🙄

Please.....try to show more compassion and empathy ❤ As a healthcare professional I can see exactly where the stitches are.....she had a lot of reconstructive surgery to get the area looking as good as it is. Think if a person with a cleft lip .....there would be an entire section leading right into the nostril. Teeth affected I can tell as well. As an actual healthcare professional I see this as an insult to million other people who can't afford plastic surgeries and have to live with turmoil.

She doesn't look normal. You can absolutely see the scarring, which makes it even more apparent that this was not just some vain diva seeking attention. There are scars under her bottom lip and also under her left nostril. Alot of makeup goes into making her look "normal", as did the lip injections for reconstructive surgery. She didn't just get "lip fillers". She was badly hurt and needed plastic surgery. Poor thing. When your face is your money maker, of course you would be terrified of what people will think. Good for you for putting yourself back out there, Care.

Christycat35 She is a spokesperson for Almay and part of Carrie's presence on stage is her appearance. In the entertainment industry you are expected to be attractive. Name one country female singer out there right now that is not attractive. Don't limit it to country, look at the majority of women in the music industry. She got attention because of her voice but her appearance has opened up other opportunities for her.

Omg this is making me cry and I have no idea

When my 4yr old son was in hospital during treatments for cancer they told me his room was meant to be a safe happy place so no crying from me or anyone else. I took long showers every day and cried the whole time. Then the positive mom could take over for another 24 hours. I think it’s good to have a crying place.

Unfortunately people will always be hypocritical and judgemental. All you claiming to know exactly what happened to Carrie are stupid. you weren't there and you obviously aren't compassionate people either. Just leave her alone. Only hope nothing like that happens to you.

I am gonna comment on this even though I probably shouldn't. I have been quiet for long enough. Until you are actually in the spotlight and fall or have a wreck or something, you won't truly understand the damage and negativity that is on you. Carrie fell taking out her dogs. Mike was out of town and she said her son was upstairs already asleep. Her dogs needed to go to the bathroom, so she took them outside and tripped on a stair. She didn't let go of the leashes (because Lord knows she would have PETA on her if she did because y'all are dramatic and immature) so she took the fall instead. She tripped...on a stair...outside. That's the story. I think when and if she is ready she will let us all know what she had done. We are sure it was something but it's best to just not assume because we all know what that means when we do that. This is the type of video that should have comments disabled, in my opinion. Love her or hate her... no need to comment mean and hurtful things. Walk a mile in her shoes and then come back and chat with the hate. She is just letting the fan club know that if she looks different, don't be alarmed. God bless.

I'm sorry, but I think she milked this for publicity. I have examined her face over and over and I can't even find the scar. Apparently, it's between her lip and nose. I don't see it. I was bit by a dog when I was young and I have scars on my face from that. My current dog, when she was puppy, actually took a little chunk out of the tip of my nose while we were playing. I'm self-conscious about my scars, but other people have told me that they can't even see them. I have to point them out. I feel like it would have been a lot braver of her to show her face sooner. She has fans who have things that they are self conscious about. Think about people who have serious facial deformities. Her behavior is teaching them that you should hide away and be ashamed of your flaws. But it's OK to make a big comeback right before your album drops and then everyone will say how strong you are. Hmm....Interesting timing.

Like she needed to milk anything for publicity. You have got to be kidding me. If you're face and appearance were as critical to your financial and personal success as they are to Carrie, this type of "freak" accident could virtually end it for you. Plus if you've ever had an accident like this it makes you feel suddenly vulnerable. For someone with such a rock solid attitude and commitment to her health, her career and her family - it could be a devastating blow to know that you could lose it all in a minute. True for all of us but maybe that wasn't anything she had ever felt before.

I understand Carrie, my dog tripped me and the same thing happened to me.

It can happen at anytime to anyone. I tripped on my front porch steps and my right foot got caught in the divit between the cement and the grass and my whole foot turned upside down with all my weight on it. Needless to say I screamed and learned I had broke my ankle. All in a split second.

She had a busted lip. I thought it was just a face lift or something, but she DID show x-rays of her injured wrist, so she DID have some sort of accident. I'm sorry that happened to her, but why all the drama about it? Saying she thought she'd scare her son, getting a standing ovation upon her return, etc. What amazes me are people who say, "Give her privacy." Uh ... SHE is the one who announced it. SHE is the one who had PR and media people doing this "big reveal" thing for months. And she HAS had cosmetic procedures. Her face is as tight as a drum and not even a trace of a forehead line. She used to have nasolabial lines between her nose and mouth. They're gone. Her mother looks amazing, but you can see she's at least had some eye and jaw work done, too.

She looks great. People have gotten in all type's of accidents. Wether this one being personal to her or all her fans. I realize that the cosmetic work was done well and even though she may have felt a little insecure about her fall, the scars is what can destroy a person. But it's healing quite nicely. So she has NO reason to be afraid. #Teamcarrie

Looking at some comments, It saddens me to see the lack of sympathy towards somebody who’s been injured. No accident should be judged.

I realize that she took a bad fall, I also feel bad that she did, but enough already!! There are so many people that have real disfigurements on their face and do not have any money to fix their disfigurement!! Please stop being so vain some people are actually born this way !!get over yourself

Im not judging, it's simply a very easy observation....calm down.. A woman in her 30s with zero lines (not normal with facial expressions we all have) and plumper lips and cheeks than when she was on American Idol. I have worked in this area and had botox myself. Its very simple to see the subtle changes or moreso no change at all.

jluttjoh Just because you work in that area doesn’t mean every woman has to have that done.When she was on Idol,she was a bit heavier than she is now,that’s why her face looks different & she lives a pretty healthy lifestyle so if you’re living a clean & healthy lifestyle,you’re not really going to see a lot of wrinkles on her.the plumper lips are because that’s where she took the brunt of her injuries on her face & cut her lip open,so of course it’s not going to look completely normal.That lip is going to look that way until it’s completely healed.She just doesn’t strike me as a woman who would need to get anything done on her face even if she wanted to.

Heavier women have fuller faces. . When you can't make expressions like normal people can....it is due to botox, dear. They all do it. Im sorry to burst your bubble. Working out a lot does not preclude anyone from wrinkles, just ask Lance Armstrong. In fact, working out produces inflammation. She is a runner, and while you can slather on sunscreen, it only does so much and most damage is done when we are very young. I have been a runner my entire life. She follows a vegan diet. Also, high inflammatory if not done correctly, which is difficult to do.

Where is the scar? there are burn victims and so much more who deal with real scars and a battle to over come feeling shamed. I don't see anything on her face; this shouldn't be a story.

Seriously, a lot of people look away when there telling a phony story. When she was explaining it to Hoda she kept looking down and to the side not keeping eye contact. Lol. Ok when I lie that’s what I do. And start laughing. What a dramatic story about something so little. She probably just wanted some extra publicity.

Looks like Botox in lips. With that many stitches in your lips she's singing & moving her mouth with no problem. Amazing!

Enough is enough. She fell, got hurt, looks fine now. I’m tired of seeing stories about this tragic accident every time I look at the news.

anna g smith Her injuries was around her lip and chin area in other pictures you can see a clear scar! She also broke her wrist too! When you had an injury on your lips they put in lip fillers to help even out the scarring and cover up the injury! I know because they had to do it with me!

The area around the chin and lip easily splits open. My daughter had a simple fall off her bike, and her chin hit the ground, and it just split needing 8 stitches. Same happened to my husband when he was a kid. I have a split on my upper lip from a dog bite. It’s fleshy and it happens. The conspiracy that she needed plastic surgery time to heal is ridiculous. She has plates and screws in her wrist! Let up and live your life!

There are people that are going through terrible things in their life, cancer, other life threatening conditions. She is a drama queen and so full of herself. I remember seeing her during her American idol audition and she was this humble down to earth person. She is so full of herself and not at all down to earth like Kelley Clarkson is. Such a drama queen. Making so much out of her accident. I crushed my leg last November in a freak accident and had to have surgery. Now I have a plate, a rod, and a bunch of screws. I live by myself. I couldn't drive, work, do hardly anything on my own. Had to depend on others for lots of help. But I didn't go feeling sorry for myself and talking up my injuries trying to get sympathy from others. Same thing with Serena Williams who "almost died" while giving birth to her child. These women are multimillionaires with access to the best care in and out of the hospital. They love the spotlight and use their stories to make themselves feel more vulnerable and "human" so their fans will lavish even more attention on them. It's so pathetic, really. The life of a celebrity... oh the humanity!! LOL

THIS INCIDENT IS THE BEST WAY TO PROMOTE HER NEW ALBUM .

If you watch her talk, you can notice that her top lip isn’t the same. But seriously I don’t see how anyone can dismiss any injury wether big or small

"She fell" ? Or an abusive relationship?
