Props to Taylor for talking about his mistake like that. Always hard for a human being to talk about his own mistake

Props to Taylor for talking about his mistake. That's one reason FIFA should allow refs to be interviewed after the game so they can have their say.
We hope you've enjoyed 'The Referees' series, it really gave us a great understanding of how difficult a referee's job is! Remember to smash the like button if you want more videos like this in the future! 👊

Don't watch much SoccerAM, but this series has been absolutely brilliant. I'll never look at a match with dodgy decisions the same way again. Anthony Taylor has gone up massively in my estimation as well. Every player and supporter needs to watch this, imo, but this goes double for people doing commentary - they need to understand what goes into making these calls so they can not only rag on the refs when they get it wrong, but give them substantial credit when they get a difficult call right. You rarely hear "Great call by the ref!" on commentary, but perhaps it should be heard more often.

wow I have a new found respect for referees
Every single player in the league should experience this referee thing. Its amazing
Really love this series! Shows a whole different side to what fans usually see.
This series is absolutely fantastic, not just for providing a viewpoint into the mysterious world of match officials, but much more importantly it's humanizing these figures who are forced to play the villain every week. Prior to this series I don't think I'd ever seen a proper interview of a referee or even heard one speak, really (except maybe Howard Webb as a guest pundit).
as a Swansea fan i was fuming when the pen was given but this has given me a different view of the situation

Love how he embraces his mistake like that and talking about learning. He is old but still willing to learn and get better as any 17 year old football prospect.
Massive eye opener for many football fans this, they have a insane amount of pressure on them.. bring in video technology in for the support of the refs & for the game overall. brilliant watch.
quality mini series, really shows the difficulty of been an official and the work they put in
This is an amazing series that gives us insight into the hardest job in football that we never get to see. Respect to the refs!
these videos are great! keep them coming
Amazing set of videos!!!!
Really liked this series great work
Watching rugby and seeing how the players respect the refs and their decisions is something I wish footballers could reach some time in the future. Just recently I was watching Lions vs the All Blacks 3rd series where the ref awarded a scrum instead of a penalty to New Zealand for an "accidental offside", this happened in the last 2 minutes in the game and it proved to be the biggest decision of the match as the game ended 15 all. I myself personally think it was the wrong decision and many other people including pundits after the game all thought it was the wrong decision, but the way the players took it in, they never argued nor did the whole team gang up against the referee, cussing at the refs. Premier league referees have huge pressure on them, they are match officials in the biggest league in the world. The game moves so fast, and their calls needs to be made in an instant. They are prone to making errors because there are many variables in the game. I hope this series makes people realise how hard it is to be a ref. I think they're one of the most disrespected figures in the sport.

The way in which he did it however wasn't, i think it was more of putting the issue or debate to bed and giving the referee an opportunity to speak to the public without any overly harsh stereotypical views being added to it.

Because Rugby is a small sport. The smaller you are the more agile you are. Football is massive and needs too many heads to turn towards something to even decide for a small change in the rules.
What is Eprosoke Training Program and how does it work? I hear a lot of people improve their soccer skills with it with this popular training course.
I think Anthony Taylor is a really good referee very honest referee I can remember when he used to be slaughtered by Supporters or Managers and he is a really good referee. I am only 15 but I do remember.
What exactly is Eprosoke Training Program? How does this thing really work? I notice many people keep on talking about this popular training program.
This needs to be advertised to every player, coach , fan, kid every one, to see how many mistakes and improve it. Like any job. Love this. I wouldnt turn up every saturday or sunday and pick up £25 for a game for the abuse they het at grassroots.

"I'm looking a little bit lost and meandering..." Everyone else on the pitch seems to think it's not a penalty..... best fall back to my default setting of 'I'm the ref, I'm always right. Even when I'm wrong.'
would adding a on field ref add any value? or would it be disruptive? has this been tried before?
Imagine if they have VAR with an ear piece so they can refer to the booth about the decision before conferring

Taylor ❤️❤️❤️
4:14 - Love it, talking to Anthony Taylor about his stag do! 😂
Taylor is one of the best Referees in the Premier League. I think he was really honest on his mistake. Very good explanation. I want to be a Referee when I grow up. And this guy is particularly one of the referees I would be like.
To be fair I think Anthony Taylor gets unfair criticism he is a good referee and at least he was honest and admitted that he got it wrong fair play to him ❤
gives referee's more credit.. i like it.
I've met Anthony Taylor he's a nice bloke👍
I have a load more respect for him now
I was so confused when he first talked about the bad decision because I couldve sworn the ref for United Bournemouth had a beard
I'd love to see Anthony Taylor's report from the match where he let Leeds take a free kick and score when Sheffield Wednesday were still making a sub, and then made it be retaken.
VAR was created for the kinds of situations like the Swansea game
This makes me pro VAR
You just used that information against him Gary lol
These reviews should be made public. Don't the NFL do something similar? Accountability and respect go hand in hand.
When did Duncan Goodhew become a ref
So happened here? It was a pk and he didn't give it? Or the other way around?
Anthony Taylor talking about correcting mistakes lol
Dang that like to dislike ratio
Anthony Taylor my favorite ref......
They're still gonna criticise the referees on MNF every week
I wish they would of asked if the ref would have liked to have a video assistant, that potentially could of cleared this all up.
No way did that stag-do affect his game, it's purely an unfortunate coincidence. Think of every time a referee has made a mistake, were they all on stag-do's prior? No. He's human. In his mind the last thing he saw was a handball by the defender, and to be fair to him I've seen far far worse decisions given. I think a fairer question would be to Nev and Carra, did partying and breaking curfew ever affect your performance as an athlete.. Props to the ref for an honest evaluation.
Because most things can be boiled down to simply being errors, it's only major, 'institutionalised' aspects of refereeing to discuss meaning I only have two real complaints of referees at the moment. 1. Diving and simulation being turned a blind eye to. Yes it's difficult and yes it's liable to get abuse and criticism but far too often do we see a ref simply wave play on to signal no foul when it's hard to understand in that particular event how the player hasn't attempted to cheat. "Contact" (that embarrassingly misunderstood word) doesn't mean the player hasn't attempted to cheat- anything that isn't natural (i.e. choosing to go down) should be classed as simulation. Also- an extra point- after the likes of Vivian Foé, Puerta, Muamba, Nouri etc. the idea that players would risk the lives of their peers by repeatedly feigning injury is disgraceful- we all shout "Play on! Ignore him!" because we know the player is faking it. That could risk someone not getting immediate treatment for a very serious incident. 2. Players being awarded free kicks for being weak/ "Too forceful" - no player should have to reduce their intensity to cater for an opponent. Players are now being rewarded for being weaker than the opposition just because the results look like a foul must have occurred- shoulder barges are perfectly legal still! The second part is something which I think has been influenced by commercial interests to keep big name players on the pitch as much as possible. The idea a challenge could be "Too Forceful" is antithetical to the concept of professionalised sport. It should be that as long as the technical aspects of the challenge are correct a player can put as much or as little force or effort into the challenge as they wish- otherwise surely a strong player has to consistently reduce their force to not exceed this imaginary, arbitrary line compared to a weaker player simply tackling as they wish. It's absolutely wrong and needs to be thought through a great deal more.
What's the correlation between referees and bald hair??
These analysis reports should be released.
What is this Stag duty Gary keeps talking about??
People need to have more respect as a referee like myself
Every football fan should watch this video. Referees are human. They make mistakes.
not sure whether he's Beckham or Taylor
If you look a Anthony Taylor and chef Marcus Wareing without a beard they do look the spit of each other
