I love my mmi prime but I am never going through that install again. Fitting that quadblock behind my bmw headunit was horrible. Maybe there is an easier install for other headunit models but my 2016 f30 was a beast. A touchscreen is a must. I do like that it works with my steering wheel control.

The install process can be rough, but it's manageable. Hope with your next BMW you'll change your mind :P

If i install one in my car, how do I power the connected device (let's say Amazon Fire stick) if it's installed inside the dashboard and I need USB to power it? Is it better to install inside the glovebox and use the usb port inside to power it?

Yeah - to power external devices, you need to have a power outlet available, so it's best for you to install it that way it's close enough to your device :)

Why not just have an all in one like other systems? I used a box just like this but it was an android system built in and installed it on a lexus that had no touchscreen just a wheel that acted like the mouse. Seemless and very easy to use, still waiting for someone to make a good one for bmw.

Yep, CarPlay MMI is only a additional feature, so you have access to all car's functions :)

I have the MMI Prime installed in my Supra. I love having Android Auto, but I didn't realize how difficult and unsafe it is to not have touch screen capability with Android Auto. Yes, you can use the idrive controls, but you have to turn/click through every item on screen to get where you want to go, and have to try to watch the tiny highlighted area WHILE DRIVING to see your selection. If you click to the wrong section you have to start all over. It is one of the most frustrating an unsafe interfaces I've ever seen. It would ALL be fixed with a firmware update to add the already included touch screen capabilities of the car.

It's the question of a screen, so for now it would be necessary to install whole new system :)

Can it be updated for cars that already have touch screen? I'm asking because it would be a tall order to ask a customer to spend another $700+ for just a touch screen option. Thank you!

Fully installed the MMI Pro, and my volume doesn’t work anymore in my 2018 F80 M3. I imagine it’s because the harness that comes with the MMI Pro doesn’t have a slot for the optical cable in the NBT EVO HU. I’ve tried several times to no avail. I’ve even had it professionally installed and it’s not working. I have no audio. I shouldn’t need any adapter as I checked the VIN with your website and it said it was perfectly compatible. Please help

I bought MMI Pro from you, contacted engineer (found from your web site ) to install it, he saying I need to pay extra for aux coding, is it true? he will charge extra £100 for aux coding on top of £200 for installing he will do this, my car is BMW 320i (uk) , 2020 m sports idrive 6, F34. can you advice please if i need aux coding or something? my car does not have aux port though

That will still be on the vehicle information, the MMI PRO won’t affect the iDrive at all, you will still be able to use it as before the installation.
