For the very first time for Halloween this year, I dressed up as Karen Carpenter at my friend's party. I knew that I wanted to capture one of her fashion moments that would also resonate with my own fashion preferences. I found this photo I share in my video that was taken in 1974 when the Carpenters were on tour in Europe. Jean jackets are my jam, and so all I needed to purchase was a similar red shirt and red pearl fashion jewelry!
I am sharing my cover of the Carpenters version of the Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell song, "Superstar." Their version was released in 1971 and became a huge hit!
Although I've never wanted the life of a singing superstar, it's been an absolute thrill to share my singing on my blog and KZread over the past few years. Getting to express myeslf through the music of the Carpenters has been a dream come true and also incredibly healing.
When I think of what it means to be a "Superstar," I believe it connects back to how we love. Learning to love ourselves deeply and love others as well embodies being a superstar in this life. It's not about all our achievements or how famous we become. That can all go away in an instant, and then what are we left with?
