This is my cover of the Carpenters Christmas song, "Merry Christmas Darling." Music by Richard Carpenter and lyrics by Frank Pooler. It was on their 1978 Christmas Portrait album.
My cover is in tribute to my dog, Reesee, who passed away earlier this year. I'm dedicating it to her and to all my fellow pet parents who are missing their beloved fur babies this holiday season. Sending love to you all.
I used to sing to Reesee all the time and would even insert her name into whatever song I was singing. For this song, I replaced "Darling" with her name in the beginning. A few weeks ago, I was going for a walk and began to cry as I realized the holidays just won't be the same without her this year. She brought me so much joy and I loved spending extra time with her around Christmas time and dressing her up in something festive!
It was very emotional to record this song, but it was also therapeutic to express my feelings of grief. Although I'm sad to be without her, I will do my best to still embrace the holidays and celebrate in her honor.
