I used to listen to this song throughout my childhood as my father loves to listen and collect CDS when he was still alive. The young version of me seems to like the melody, but growing up, and knowing the lyrics of this masterpiece hits differently. I'm a people pleaser, trying to be someone that I'm not just to fit in and to be liked by many people. But through this song, I realized how important I am; that I shouldn't be defined by what other people may think about me, that I should care less because at the end of the day, I only have myself that I should worry about.

I didn’t hear it until today. I am a fan of The Carpenters. Saw them at the Hollywood Bowl in Summer 1971.

Listening to this right night with tears, we broke up because I wanted to be loved for who and what I am, so I asked him if I had to be what he wanted me to be just to claim that I was ideal for him, and he replied yes, and it shattered my heart, so I sent him this song, but he just let me go and freed me right away:((.

Just a thought. Real love cares enough to confront when things are not right. This doesn't mean you don't have the right to make your own choices. Successful people understand we all have blind spots, we all need people to speak into our lives that we can be better than what we are. Here's a crazy thought, her philosophy being sung about is what brought her an early death. I'm not trying to be condemning I'm just saying this philosophy is full of holes that has destroyed many peoples lives. Everyone of us needs people to speak into our lives to help us become more than what we are and fulfill the potential for all we could become. This is a beautiful song but that doesn't mean we drink the Kool-Aid.

I compromise with the person i love.. We will meet half way and given it will be for the betterment of our relationship. What we should master is how to look for signs with a toxic partner. I read a lot of books, i listened to a lot of testimonials coming from different point of views and from there i listed the things or traits that are negotiable and non negotiable to me. At the end of the day it is still my decision to make. It saves me lot of heartaches and time.
