This took me back 60 years when I used to make all my own floats, using anything from crow quills to huge swan quills. I must have caught many hundreds of fish using them. Thanks for a great video.

Bread, Hotdog Segment, plus plenty of mushed bread going in as feed. Fish in the evenings as well, stay on until dusk. Fish the margins, near overhangs etc.

Caught carp on multipliers in North Carolina, but although good for fighting the fish no good for casting light baits. Better to stay with fixed spool reels.

I've started fishing with my Dad this year, He first fished when he was young and had a record fish of 2lb something. Then he ran his own business and has just retired. This year he caught a 5lb 8oz carp and is totally hooked and kicking himself for missing out on a lifetime of fishing. He thoroughly enjoys our sessions up at springrock carp fishery and wants to go more than even I do. Mine and your endevours should be testemant to how much fun this Father and son fishing is, take yer Dad's out!

No,not really. But I did change it from a red top to an orange one so it stands out better. Years ago I used to paint them with those small tins of enamel paint which has a harder finish.Get them from Ironmongers or model shops.

For what ? If you mean standard carp fishing, its 6lb straight through, or sometimes a hooklink down to 3lbs if I am after smaller fish on rivers.

I use Ryobi Masterline Avon rods, and any reasonable fixed spool reel will do.But watch out on bite alarms.I recently bought some off the internet by a guy in West End,Surrey, and they had no instructions. Emailed three times to get them and still nothing came.Bad service. They have TMC stamped on them, three in a box. Might be better to check out your local tackle shop first,at least you should get instructions with them !! Good Luck. Graeme(PS-Pro-Gold line in 6/8lbs is about the strongest I know)

You could just push the bottom into a float adaptor and save having to whip on an eye.

Great video! I want to get into carp fishing, but the kit cost are so high, it is hard to do. Thanks for the great tip. I can see that it is just as much fun making floats as using them. If you ever get state side, let me know and we will go chase some around here!

For the eye , use old eyed hooks that are dull and done with, cut off bend and slide in to quill end add supper glue, job done. I hate wire twisters never know which way they are twisted.

After seeing this film I went out and found some feathers and some whipping stuff from the fishing shop they gave me a couple of meters for free. I struggled with the whipping part of making the float is there any change of a film showing how to whip the eyes on your floats please.

i found an easier way to do the paperclip eyelet. i just make a cut with wire cutter just above the wire thats on the outside of the clip and then use pliers to roll and fold the pre-curved section of the paperclip. if you use the larger paper clips, you can get a big eyelet and a small one. the smaller ones you get at least one out of it. havent tried the jumbo sized ones yet.

What?...waste a paper clip?, they come in handy for holding pound notes. Much cheaper to nick, erm, 'borrow' a safety pin from the other half's sewing box as it already has the eye. Well done on this outing and keep up the good vids.
