Oh North Carolina coast is the best vacation spot in the Country, my favorite place to go hands down, love it.

Last time I was there the entrance area had about 10" of standing water. It was fun watching an Audi A4 drive through it.

No. There's a fence. At least the one time I tried it.

As for the fences I dont dout that. Also there is a small finger canal just south of the va. Beach. Limit. Also you will have to pass some other things that will cause some delays.

Jeep 4x4 grand Cherokee, I have street tires on it, can I make it up there by airing down street tires in 4wd?

Did you stay in 4Hi this drive or do you ever shift to 4Lo?

Thanks! Headed there this year for family vacation. I've got a good bit of off road experience but no sand driving yet. Any tips? I'll be in a Tacoma 4x4 Double Cab.

you will be just fine, let the air out of your tires to about 15-20lbs , also if you do get stuck , stop , put your truck in reverse and 9/10 times you can back rite out of it, also the sugary sand next to the dunes can be a little dicey at times. The last time we went i had a 2015 jeep patriot which really isnt 4x4 and i was fine. also one other tip is to not punch the gas at all or you will sink. search youtube for twiddy & co , they have an entire playlist about driving on that beach it was very helpful

how packed is this sand? Debating bringing an adventure motorcycle and trying to see if I can tackle it, or wondering if that's an exercise in digging myself out.

@@dw6062 I rode my motorcycle on the beach before. I have been riding 20 years. I got to tell you, its not for the inexperienced or the faint at heart and even I advise against it.

It was very difficult on a dry day, after it rained in the morning it was cake. I was on a 350lb bike. A lighter 500EXC let's say with a knobby would be very easy. @Rob W

Nope, you need a legit 4x4 to make it out there. If you attempt it, have a credit card or cash ready......its not cheap to get hauled off the beach.

You can make it the whole way with 2wd and tires aired down to 15-20 psi. You WILL get stuck if you try to drive through deeper sand. Have a tow strap on hand and there's plenty of people out there who should be willing to drag you out.

You have to have experience driving in the sand. The beach has been exceptionally bad this year due to all the traffic and people not airing down. Full of washboards. Also, the lack of rain this year doesn’t help. Lots of sugar sand.
