Is it normal to have straps on carousel horses in America? Or was that just part of the 'race' thing? Because in Australia we just hold onto the weird protruding pole thing in its back. (Perhaps the horses in America are more like to buck!)

Now if you see something stupid like that (example: the seatbelt) in america, its because its a 'safety' thing so if somebody's kid was to get hurt they couldn't sue, saying it was not their fault, they had the seatbelt on. More or less a liability thing.

If they're very small they have to have seatbelts. Obviously if you're old enough to hold your balance you don't have to. But usually by then you've grown out of carousels...unless it's Disneyland
