Caroline Guitar Company - Kilobyte Lo-Fi Delay Demo

Музыка

Guitar demo of the ultra-inspiring Caroline Guitar Company Kilobyte Lo-Fi Delay pedal
Available for purchase at: thepedalzone.com/kilobyte/
Looking for a delay that's all about the gameplay? Then the Caroline Guitar Co Kilobyte Lo-Fi Delay should be right up your tonal alley!
Built around a delay chip normally found in old karaoke machines and toys from the 80s, the Kilobyte sports an abundance of gorgeous smeary repeats that can be crushed to bits via the built-in analog drive circuit. It also contains some of the most amazing and organic modulation ever put in a delay, and to finish it all off there's the Havoc-switch, which instantly sends the pedal into self-oscillation territory for classic spaceship sounds or ambient pads to fill out the space in-between notes and chord changes.
There's no distracting feature overload here. Just plain old-school fun!

Simon Neill Classic Vibe Strat
Pedals used:

I was born in 1980. My first computer was a MSX with a cassette to load games and some ( 2 ) games in cartridges that you had to put inside the own computer. I fuc&!n@ understand what you are saying about having fun with simple but absolutely magical new stuff. The kilobyte is a jewel

First pedal demo where I nearly shed a tear. Seriously: "Let's turn it on and let the echoes of a not-so-distant past, fill the room." I had to pause the video and take that in. I also grew up in the 80's, with these toys that had ridiculously playful functionality and tape effects. (I even still have my Casio Sk-1 that I bought from my brother's friend for $3 back in the day). Thanks for taking the time to merge aesthetic vision, great composition, and poetic description to illustrate how to use well these boxes of tones , timbres, and aural landscapes that we all love so much.

I have to say, Stefan, your production quality/style paired with a keen eye for a very inspiring tonal palette really create a very accessible and artistic KZread experience. I always enjoy your videos, whether it leads to a sale or not, I always consider every pedal...and I hope these companies are taking good care of you. To date I have bought 9 pedals (all of which I first encountered on your channel). Cheers, Stefan! -Rich

I was interested in this pedal because of learning that Dave Cobb using it in the studio, and then your video sold me on it. As an 80s kid your video has the warm-fuzz vibe of nostalgia that grabbed me and I find myself watching the video sometime just for the vibe and tones. This has changed how I'm playing and writing. I use it on acoustic guitar, and vocals too. Keep up the great work.

I've been watching your videos for almost two hours and I can't get enough of it. Simplicity, clarity, appropriate playing according to the effects you show... Great job man. That guy you are is a real cool guy. I'm a saxophonist by the way. If you have the chance to do reviews of pedals with a horn player, it would be amazing. I'm not the only one looking for this kind of stuff on the internet... Because there is practically nothing except on forums and meh... You would be the first to do such videos. And I would totally agree with that, so would a ton more people for sure. Good luck to you man !

Thank you so very much, man! Can't describe how much your kindness means to me :) Since the Kilobyte is an analog-voiced delay, I would go with something a tad brighter to pair it with. A nice Echoplex-like tape delay or just a pristine digital delay could be the ticket. I really dig the EQD Avalanche Run, EQD Dispatch Master, EQD Space Spiral and Catalinbread Belle Epoch for that delay style. Check 'em out and let me know what you think :) All the best Stefan

Meet Maude is much much darker, gritty and washy. Kilobyte is more like a Deluxe Memory Man. Actually the closest thing I've heard to an old Deluxe Memory Man. Both are great delay pedals. Go Meet Maude if you want the sound of old tape on the verge of destruction. Go Kilobyte if you want more modern analog-voiced delay tones. I love both delays but have definitely used Kilobyte the most. It just fits better into the music I make.

Hey, man! Never too late for responses here ☺I honestly have no idea how it compares, since I've never played the DOD Rubberneck. So sound-wise, I don't know. Feature-wise they are very different. Rubberneck is an all-analog delay with tap tempo, fx loop, modulation etc etc. Kilobyte is one of the most finely tuned analog-voiced delays out there. It's digital by technology, but filtered to sound like an analog delay. Very reminiscent of the old EHX Memory Man. Sounds incredible.
