I was recently on the inaugural 5 day Mexican Riviera cruise from Long Beach California on the brand new Cruise Ship, the Carnival Firenze. It's a new kind of ship from Carnival, Fun Italian Style!

I was on the inaugural 5 day cruise. It was the original inaugural before that sneakily added the 7 day cruise before ours!

Is the ship small? I know its not an Icon - but is it small and crowded?

The ship doesn't feel small or crowded. Of course it's busy on sea days but no more than any other ship. The way the ship is designed they have done a great job of spreading people out with lots of different venues and places people can hang out. Even on sea days the buffet was never over crowded and that's something many other ships struggle with.
